VRFA Blotter: Shooting, collision, chimney fire & more

Here are 911 Calls for Service responded to by the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) from Jan. 20–Jan. 26, 2024:

  • Service Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, January 20th at 3:11 p.m., VRFA firefighters assisted an adult female whose electric wheelchair malfunctioned on a sidewalk. The citizen, who had traveled by bus from her temporary shelter, required assistance returning home. Firefighters arranged transportation through the taxi voucher program, ensuring she arrived home safely.
  • MINFIR: (Auburn) On Tuesday, 1/21/2025 at 7:25 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of white smoke coming from the roof of a single-story nursing facility. Crews investigated both the roof and the unit below and found a pipe spraying hot water, creating a large amount of steam. Firefighters confirmed there was no fire.
  • Shooting: (Auburn) On Wednesday, January 22nd, at 8:49 p.m., VRFA firefighters and King County Medic One Paramedics responded to a North Auburn apartment complex for a reported shooting. Crews treated a critically injured patient who was stabilized and transported to Harborview Medical Center by paramedics.
  • Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, January 23rd, at 3:06 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a female reporting minor injuries from a physical altercation. The patient was evaluated on scene and remained with Auburn Police.
  • Motor Vehicle Collision: (Pacific) On Friday, January 24th at 1:40 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a crash on Highway 167 involving a vehicle that had fled from Washington State Patrol troopers. The fleeing driver clipped another vehicle at high speed, lost control, struck a guardrail, and spun out. The driver of the fleeing vehicle denied injuries and remained in WSP custody. The elderly driver of the second vehicle was transported by a VRFA aid car to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for evaluation.
  • Chimney Fire: (Pacific) On Saturday, January 25th at 8:53 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to a chimney fire. Crews found that a fire in a wood stove had extended into the metal chimney pipe. Firefighters extinguished the fire using a small amount of water in the wood stove, allowing steam to put out the chimney fire. There was no fire extension into the house. The homeowner was advised not to use the wood stove until the chimney was repaired.
  • AFA: (Auburn) On Sunday, January 26th at 12:43 p.m., VRFA firefighters responded to an automated fire alarm at an apartment building. The alarm was triggered by smoke from burned food as residents prepared for a large gathering. Firefighters ventilated the hallway and apartment using a fan and reset the fire alarm system.
