U.S. Flags to be Lowered to Half-Staff in Honor of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings

President Donald J. Trump has ordered the United States Flag to be flown at Half-Staff across the nation and all U.S. territories, effective immediately through sunset, Friday, October 18, 2019, in honor of United States Congressman Elijah E. Cummings.   Cummings was Representatives for Maryland’s 7th congressional district.

Cummings died Thursday of complications from longstanding health problems. He was 68.  His widow, Maryland Democratic Party Chair Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, released the following statement,

“Congressman Cummings was an honorable man who proudly served his district and the nation with dignity, integrity, compassion, and humility. He worked until his last breath because he believed our democracy was the highest and best expression of our collective humanity and that our nation’s diversity was our promise, not our problem. It has been an honor to walk by his side on this incredible journey. I loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.”
