Police seek public’s help identifying hit-and-run driver in February incident

  Shortly after 8:00pm on February 7, 2018, Auburn Police responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.  Officers responding to the call found a 53-year-old female left in the road, after having been struck by an unknown vehicle.  The vehicle that struck the victim made no attempt to stop, continuing southbound on A Street SE after the collision.  The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center for extensive head injuries, where she currently remains in critical condition.

Investigators obtained surveillance video from a local business that captured the incident.  According to police, the vehicle is described as a white, or light-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota.  The vehicle should have front-end damage.  Investigators have been unable to locate any leads that would positively identify the vehicle and/or the driver.

The footage also shows the victim walking southbound on A Street SE in the curb lane prior to the incident.  It is unknown where she was coming from at the time of the collision.  According to police spokesman Commander Mark Caillier, no calls were made prior to the collision alerting police to the woman’s presence in the roadway.

Police received one report of the incident from a pedestrian walking northbound along A Street SE.  The witness also attempted to pull the victim from the roadway.   No cars stopped after the collision.

 In hopes of generating information, the Auburn Police Department is releasing video of the incident. Currently, this is the only usable footage available.  This video, although grainy, is graphic and viewer discretion is advised.  The vehicle can be seen striking the victim at 20:07:52.

Auburn Police are asking that if anyone has any information about this incident to please contact the APD tip line at 253-288-7403.

UPDATE: It has been mentioned by readers that this appears to be a purposeful act. We asked APD media spokesperson Cmdr Caillier if there was any indication that the collision was intentional or if there was any connection between the driver and victim. It is unknown at this time if that is the case.
