Auburn Police officers helped rescue a person who overdosed on prescription medication and fell down a steep embankment Sept. 24, according to the Auburn Police Department.

Officers from the department’s newly created Tactical Patrol Unit brought additional rescue gear into a wooded area, reached the patient and stabilized them, police said. The officers stayed with the patient until firefighters and medics arrived.

A rope rescue crew then removed the patient from the embankment so they could be transported for further medical care, according to the department.

The department did not provide the location of the rescue or an update on the patient’s condition.

The Tactical Patrol Unit was created to address emerging crime trends, locations with recurring problems, drug activity in public spaces, repeat offenders and other concerns identified by police and community members, according to the department.

The team combines targeted patrols and enforcement with community engagement. The department said its goals include reducing crime, improving neighborhood safety and building public confidence in Auburn Police.
