Investigators later determined the driver had left the area, leaving the vehicle in a location that required an extensive recovery effort.

According to police, deputies with the Marine Unit were called in to help remove the vehicle. The recovery required deputies to attach tow cables while suspended, cut down trees and assist a tow truck operator in physically extracting the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said the operation demonstrated the wide range of skills required of Marine Unit deputies, who are trained to handle unpredictable and challenging situations.

“These guys do it all. And then some,” police said.
