Mayor Nancy Backus has issued a proclamation ending the curfew order and civil emergency in the City of Auburn. The curfew, declared Sunday, May 31, was ordered due to looting, vandalism, and destruction of property.
City of Auburn Communications Division Manager Kalyn Brady confirmed Auburn Police did not arrest or detain anyone for breaking the curfew order since its issuance on Sunday.
Looters burglarized and vandalized several stores surrounding The Outlet Collection on Sunday, June 1. Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman confirmed Monday that police had information of potential looting or vandalism planned at the Lakeland Towncenter that evening. In a proactive measure, Auburn police staged in and around the community, monitoring for activity. There was no looting or vandalism. The planned protest Tuesday dispersed peacefully at the curfew.
On Thursday night a social media post stated an undercover officer informed local businesses bricks had been staged, advising looters were expected. “I don’t have any knowledge of an undercover officer warning businesses about the bricks last night, or that they were advised to board up the glass. I also have not heard any information about bricks around town last night. There have been no threats or signs of looting in Auburn after the initial onslaught a few days ago.” said Hirman.
