Divisions range from second grade to adult, including an elite division and a celebrity game. Each winner for the various levels will be recognized with prizes and awards. The elite winning team will take home the “Jim Marsh Elite Division” trophy. Games will be played throughout the day in the Outlet Collection- Seattle north parking lot. The Auburn Area Chamber and event partners encourage the community to bring family, friends, and colleagues out to enjoy the weekend of basketball fun. Admission is free for spectators. There will be a variety of activities, booths and interactive fun.

The tournament is five years running and was started by chamber partner, Emerald Downs. The tournament was affectionately known as the EMD 3on3 Classic, one of the largest basketball events of its kind in Western Washington. Although some of the elements and the location of the tournament are changing, we will be continuing some of the traditions which include, involvement of non-profits. This includes the relationship Emerald Downs has built with MENTOR Washington and Jim Marsh.

Mr. Marsh was integral in helping to elevate the tournament and garner additional team participation and bring a host of celebrities out to the courts. Marsh is a former USC and NBA player. Marsh has coached and mentored thousands of youth through basketball as well as in his work as a high school select and college-level basketball coach.

“When the opportunity arose to take over the tournament and continue the work that Emerald Downs started, it just made sense for the chamber to take the project on and to include our long-time partner, the Watts Basketball Foundation,” said Julia Jordan, president and C.E.O of the Auburn Area Chamber. “They (Watts) have been very supportive in our other endeavors like the high school career conference for our future workforce of Washington STEM project and our other annual fundraisers. Teaming up the Watts Foundation just makes sense.”

In addition, Emerald Downs has agreed to provide the use of the basketball hoops and equipment to the chamber. Emerald Downs has been extremely supportive and instrumental in giving us the opportunity to grow this wonderful event geared to support youth mentorship and STEM programs.

Jordan stated “Team sign-ups are only $125.00. There will be youth team scholarships available courtesy of our business investors and partners. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to play despite the ability to pay.”

This event is co-produced by the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Watts Foundation, and in collaboration with MENTOR Washington.
