A 53-year-old inmate passed away on Sunday evening, one day after being transferred to Harborview Medical Center from the downtown Seattle jail.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct a review to determine the cause and manner of death.

As part of the standard review process for jail-related deaths, the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will work with Public Health – Seattle & King County to conduct an internal investigation. The Seattle Police Department also will conduct an independent investigation.
