The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 269 calls for service for the week of March 29-April 4, 2022 (prev week 270). Year to Date our Valley Professional Firefighters have responded to a total of 3,840 calls for service. This is a 12.7% increase from 2021 (3,408).
Calls for Service Breakdown:
230 (85%) were aid calls. Total aid calls in 2022 so far are 3,256, up 9.7%, compared to 2021’s (2,967).
36 (13%) were fire calls. The number of fire calls is up by 26.3%, with 2022 having 512 calls and 2021 having 384.
3 (1%) were calls categorized as other. The number of other calls in 2022 is up (25.5%) with 72 calls in 2021 only having 57. ‘Other’ calls include water rescues, water over roadways, downed lines, hazmat calls, and ladder requests.

VRFA Calls for Service

S.W.A.T. Standby: (Pacific) On Tuesday, March 29th at 5:30 a.m., VRFA firefighters, along with King County paramedics, were requested to stage during a police S.W.A.T. activation. Units staged at Fire Station 38 in case any medical needs were requested. No injuries were incurred and units were released back in service.

Aid Call: (Auburn) On Tuesday, March 29th at 2:45 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female in labor. After the delivery, mother and child were examined on scene by firefighters and King County Medics. King County Medics transported both mother and daughter to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, March 30th at 11:27 a.m., firefighters responded to a male patient who was having a reaction to a marijuana edible. Firefighters found the patient to be lethargic and nauseated. The patient was slightly dehydrated and was transported to a local hospital by private ambulance for further evaluation.

Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Thursday, March 31st at 9:49 a.m., VRFA firefighters and King County Medic One responded to a motor vehicle accident on northbound Highway 167. On arrival, one vehicle was found rolled over on its hood in the middle of the highway, and another had crashed into a ditch. Firefighters and Medic 6 treated one patient due to the severity of the collision. The patient was transported to Auburn Hospital by private ambulance.
Aid Call: (Auburn) On Friday, April 1st at 9:39 a.m., firefighters responded to an adult male who suffered injuries to the face after falling into a glass table. Firefighters evaluated and treated the patient and he was transported by A332 to a local hospital for further care.
Aid Call: (Auburn) On Saturday, April 2nd at 6:27 p.m., firefighters responded to an unconscious and unresponsive adult male. Firefighters and paramedics initiated CPR. The patient was transported to Auburn MultiCare for continued care via paramedics.
Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, April 3rd at 6:40 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult male who was in custody by the Auburn Police Dept. The patient was compliant and treated for swallowing opioid pills. Afterwards, he was transported by private ambulance to the local hospital in stable condition.

The Community Assistance, Referrals, and Education Services (CARES) is a joint program between VRFA, King County Emergency Medical Services division South King Fire & Rescue, Enumclaw, and Mountainview Fire and Rescue departments. Each CARES response vehicle is staffed 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. by one firefighter from each department and a social worker. The CARES unit is sent on less emergent calls in non-transport capable vehicles to provide basic patient evaluation, assistance, specific basic life support treatment on scene, and arrange for transport if medically necessary. CARES also referred patients to community services where needed.
