This April, everyone living in the United States will be counted in the 2020 Census.  A census is taken every ten years, as mandated in the United States Constitution.

Most people know that data collected in the US Census is used to determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives.  However, census data is used to inform a range of government, business, and nonprofit decisionmaking. Governments and nonprofit organizations rely on census data to determine the need for new roads, hospitals, schools, and other public sector investments.

If you are concerned that your specific, personal data will be given out if you participate in the census: DON’T BE.  Once you submit your census data, it can not be shared with any agency beyond the US Census Bureau.
