The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 246 calls for service for the week of May 24-30, 2021. Year to Date our Valley Professional Firefighters have responded to a total of 5,631 calls. This is a 9.4% increase from 2020 (5,149).
Call Breakdown:
188 (76%) were aid calls. Total aid calls in 2021 so far are 4,290 (up 11.8%, compared to 2020’s 3,836).
6 (2%) were fire calls. The number of fire calls is up by 41.8%, with 2021 having 156calls and 2020 having 110.
52 (23%) were calls categorized as other. The number of other calls is down (-1.5%), with 2021 currently at 1,185 calls compared to 2020’s 1,203. Other calls include water rescues, hazmat calls, and ladder requests.
VRFA Calls for Service
- Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, May 24 at 7:15 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female that was short of breath. When they arrived, they found her unresponsive with no pulse. Firefighters initiated CPR and dispatched additional units for assistance. Firefighters and King County Medics continued CPR on scene and the patient regained a spontaneous pulse. Firefighters and medics transported the patient to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.
- Shooting: (Lea Hill) On Tuesday, May 25 at 7:38 p.m., firefighters responded with Auburn Police to a middle-aged man who was shot by an unknown subject who fled the scene. Firefighters and medics treated the victim at the scene. The patient was transported by King County Medics to Harborview Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury to the shoulder.
- Aid Call: (Pacific) On Wednesday, May 26 at 7:12 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female whom tested positive for COVID 19. The patient was evaluated by firefighters on scene and then transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by private ambulance.
- Wires down: (Auburn) on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 3:25 P.M, firefighters responded to a large tree suspended on power lines across West Valley HWY. Firefighters along with APD provided traffic control until City of Auburn Public Works was able to shut down the road and coordinate tree removal with PSE.
- Aid Call: (Auburn) On Friday, May 28 at 8:45 p.m., firefighters responded to the location where PD had confronted a barricaded suspect and requested patient evaluation. The patient was examined by firefighters. The patient was left in stable condition in PD custody.
- Car Fire: (Lea Hill) On Friday, May 28 at 7:26 a.m., firefighters responded to a pickup truck on fire on a secluded road. On arrival, firefighters found a full size pickup, fully involved in fire. The fire was extinguished and is under investigation by VRFA fire investigators & Auburn Police.
- Vehicle vs Bicycle: (Auburn) On Saturday, May 29 at 12:46 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a bicycle versus vehicle collision. Personnel treated the bicyclist for minor injuries and a private ambulance transported him to Multi Care Auburn Hospital for further care.
- Electrical fire: (South Auburn) on Sunday May 30 at 1210 p.m., firefighters responded to the smell of an electrical fire in the wall of a mobile home. Crews found charring on insulation that was on top of a water heater. Firefighters removed the charred insulation and shut off power to the hot water tank. Fire crews instructed the tenant to have the hot water tank inspected by an electrician before turning it back on.
Fire Investigations
On Friday, May 28, an Incendiary passenger vehicle fire occurred at SE 312th St and 132nd Way
in the City of Auburn. The vehicle is considered a complete loss at $15,000. The joint
investigation with Auburn Police remains active.

The Community Assistance, Referrals, and Education Services (CARES) is a joint program between VRFA, King County Emergency Medical Services division South King Fire & Rescue, Enumclaw, and Mountainview Fire and Rescue departments. Each CARES response vehicle is staffed 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. by one firefighter from each department and a social worker. The CARES unit is sent on less emergent calls in non-transport capable vehicles to provide basic patient evaluation, assistance, specific basic life support treatment on scene, and arrange for transport if medically necessary. CARES also referred patients to community services where needed.
