The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 288 calls for service for the week of September 20-26, 2021. Year to Date our Valley Professional Firefighters have responded to a total of 11,057 calls. This is a 14.4% increase from 2020 (9,668).
Call Breakdown:
220 (76%) were aid calls. Total aid calls in 2021 so far are 8,205 up 15.6%, compared to 2020’s (7,099).
4 (1%) were fire calls. The number of fire calls is up by 19.9%, with 2021 having 403 calls and 2020 having 336.
64 (22%) were calls categorized as other. The number of other calls is up (9.7%), with 2021 currently at 2,449 calls compared to 2020’s 2,223. Other calls include water rescues, hazmat calls, and ladder requests.
VRFA Calls for Service
- Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, September 20 at 8:05 a.m., firefighters responded to an adult
female going through drug withdrawals. The patient was evaluated and transported to MultiCare
Auburn Medical center by firefighters. - Aid Call: (Auburn) On Tuesday, September 21 at 08:48 a.m., firefighters responded to an adult
female who suffered multiple finger amputations from an industrial machinery incident. The patient
was cleaning the equipment when the machine turned on causing her fingers to be pulled into the
machine and amputated. Firefighters treated the patient’s injuries. The patient was transported to
Valley Medical Center for continued care. - Welfare Check: (Auburn) On Wednesday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m., firefighters were called for a
welfare check on a coworker at a local hotel. He had been sick and missed a week of work.
Firefighters found the adult male deceased. The scene was turned over to Auburn Police. - Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Thursday, September 23 at 5:34 p.m., firefighters responded to an elderly
woman who was found unresponsive outside of her home. They arrived on scene quickly to find
that she needed immediate medical interventions. Firefighters were able to stabilize the patient
until King County Medic One arrived to provide further assistance. The patient was stable enough
to be transported by a friend to a local hospital. - Brush Fire: On September 24 at 10:00 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of an unknown fire in
a wooded area south of S 277th Street. After approximately one hour of chasing scents of smoke
through multiple neighborhoods, a 10X20’ homeless encampment fire was located in a drainage
area. Firefighters deployed 800 feet of hose to ensure extinguishment. The cause of the fire
remains undetermined. - Auto Accident: (Auburn) On Saturday, September 25 at 9:30 a.m., firefighters responded to an auto
accident on Hwy 18. An adult female complained of chest pain after rear-ending a truck. She was
transported to MultiCare Auburn by private ambulance. - Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, September 26 at 11:42 a.m., firefighters responded to an adult
female who suffered multiple injuries after being run over by a truck and trailer. Firefighters and
paramedics treated the patient on scene and she was transported to Harborview Medical Center
by paramedics for further evaluation. - Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, September 26 at 4:21 p.m., firefighters responded to evaluate a
patient in police custody. A woman saw her daughter’s stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a movie
theater, and found someone sleeping inside of the vehicle. She called for police. When Auburn
Police woke the occupant of the vehicle, he started fighting with the officer. He was quickly
restrained. APD requested that firefighters evaluate the subject before he was transported to jail.
Fire Investigations
- On Tuesday, September 21, an accidental fire occurred in the 100 block of 17th St SE in the City
of Auburn. The single-family residence sustained heavy smoke and flames damage throughout.
The fire resulted from an overloaded electrical circuit. Dollar loss is estimated at $60,000.

The Community Assistance, Referrals, and Education Services (CARES) is a joint program between VRFA, King County Emergency Medical Services division South King Fire & Rescue, Enumclaw, and Mountainview Fire and Rescue departments. Each CARES response vehicle is staffed 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. by one firefighter from each department and a social worker. The CARES unit is sent on less emergent calls in non-transport capable vehicles to provide basic patient evaluation, assistance, specific basic life support treatment on scene, and arrange for transport if medically necessary. CARES also referred patients to community services where needed.
