Green River College to Celebrate the Life of Dr. Mel Lindbloom

A celebration of life honoring Dr. Melvin (Mel) Lindbloom will be held next month at Green River College. Attendees are welcome to attend both online or in-person to remember and celebrate the unique life of the beloved colleague, friend, husband, father, and grandfather.

Mel passed away on February 10, 2020. He passed away peacefully, in his sleep.

The celebration of life for Dr. Melvin (Mel) Lindbloom will be Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mel Lindbloom Student Union. This event will be held both in-person and virtually (Zoom). Attendees are asked to RSVP (bit.ly/mel-lindbloom or 253-288-3330.).

Born in Mt. Vernon, Washington May 14, 1925, Mel graduated Sedro Woolley High School in 1943. After He went on to join the US Navy, proudly serving on a destroyer (USS Mertz) during WW II. Mel earned his BA and master’s degrees in education at Western Washington University. He earned his Superintendent credentials at the University of Washington and his doctorate in Administrative Education at Washington State University.

Mel met his wife of 58 years, Roma Mae Still, at Western State. Roma passed away in 2006. They had two daughters.

After serving at the Assistant Superintendent in the Auburn School District, Mel became the Founding President of Green River College in 1964. He remained President until his retirement in 1980.
