In 2017 and 2018, Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation and The ChadTough Foundation, and its chapters and partner families awarded over $3.3 million in DIPG-specific research grants.
These research grants include a project by Dr. David Ashley (Director of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Duke University) to modify the poliovirus to treat DIPG tumors.
The Duke University team’s groundbreaking work using the poliovirus to treat brain tumors has received significant attention, including two segments on 60 Minutes. But DIPG has previously been excluded from the clinical trials using this treatment. Defeat DIPG and ChadTough are funding this promising research to help bridge this gap, with hopes of providing a new treatment for children with DIPG.
The Defeat DIPG Foundation team spoke with Dr. Ashley to get an update on this important work.
