Below are just a few of the calls the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to for the week of November 2-8, 2020. VRFA firefighters responded to a total of 233 calls for service during this week. 175 were aid calls, 7 were fire calls, and 51 were categorized as other. Other calls include water rescues, HazMat calls, and ladder requests.
Year to Date our Valley Professional Firefighters have responded to a total of 11,199 calls. This is a .07% decrease from 2019 (11,275 calls). Total aid calls in 2020 so far are 8,230 (-1.5% compared to 2019’s 8,354). The number of fire calls is up by 5.7%, with 2020 having 390 calls and 2019 having 369. The number of other calls is also up (1.1%), with 2020 currently at 2,579 calls compared to 2019’s 2,552.

- Motor Vehicle Accident: (Algona) On Monday, November 2 at 6:47 p.m., firefighters responded to
an adult male who was run over by a box truck. The patient was evaluated by King County
Paramedics and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by private ambulance. - Aid Call: (Pacific) On Tuesday, November 3, at 12:45 p.m., firefighters responded to the COVID
testing site for a patient that was possibly having a seizure, following her test. Firefighters arrived
to find the patient doing well and not showing signs or symptoms of a seizure. Firefighters
evaluated the patient and had no negative findings. The patient was taken home by her family. - Rollover Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Wednesday, November 4 at 2:40 p.m., firefighters
responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident underneath Highway 18. Fire personnel secured
the vehicle. The patient denied any injuries and remained at the scene with his car and APD.
photo credit: Auburn Examiner Reader - Gas Explosion: (Lea Hill) On Thursday, November 5 at 9:50 a.m., firefighters responded to an
explosion in an RV travel trailer. Arriving firefighters found a large travel trailer destroyed by the
explosion. Family members pulled two middle-age females from the debris pile who had been living
in the trailer. Both patients suffered numerous 2nd-degree thermal burns. Firefighters and King
County Medics treated the patients. King County Medics transported the patients to Harborview
Medical Center. The incident is being investigated as a propane explosion. - Aid Call: (Lakeland Hills) On Friday, November 6 at 8:02 a.m., firefighters responded to an
unconscious diabetic. Personnel arrived and found the male had passed away earlier in the night.
the scene was turned over to Auburn Police to arrange for medical examiner transport. - Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Saturday, November 7 at 1:44 p.m., firefighters assisted a female child
complaining of back pain. VRFA personnel treated the patient on scene. She was then transported
to a local urgent care by her parents. - Aid Call: (Pacific): On Sunday, November 8 at 2:20 p.m., firefighters responded to an elderly female
who was having abdominal pain from an ongoing treated medical condition. Firefighters found the
patient in need of further care in a hospital setting. The patient was transported to MultiCare Auburn
Medical Center by private ambulance.
Training Division:
Consortium Quarantine: One member of the training consortium tested positive with Covid-19 and potentially exposed the training division. All the training officers were tested and quarantined to work from home for a 14-day period from the time of exposure. There is no evidence of further spread. All members of the training consortium will return to work on Monday, November 16.
VRFA has four members currently in quarantine. This is not impacting staffing levels.
Fire Investigations:
On Thursday, November 5, an explosion occurred in the 32000 block of 109th PL SE in the City
of Auburn. The explosion occurred due to a propane leak inside a fifth wheel occupied by two
adults. Fire crews arrived to find no fire with heavy damage to the trailer and secondary damage
to nearby homes. Two adults were treated at the scene and transported to Harborview. Dollar
loss is estimated at $60,000.
Auburn Examiner update: both patients survived the incident and were treated with first and second-degree burns. One of the two women also has a spinal compression. If we are able to share additional information at a later time we will do so.
