The firework stands near the Muckleshoot Casino and Resort are expected to open tonight, June 19. Auburn Police Department has shared fireworks shows are planned in the evening in the area of the temporary fireworks stands. Currently, these shows are planned for Saturday, June 20 and June 27.
Fireworks that “go up or blow up” are not permitted within the City of Auburn. Auburn firework regulations do not apply to Muckleshoot tribal land. Muckleshoot tribal land is not limited to the area surrounding the Muckleshoot Casino.
The current listed ‘light off times’ for the Muckleshoot firework stand area are:
Sunday – Thursday: 11:00am – 10:00pm
Friday and Saturday: 11:00am – Midnight
June 20th show is expected to begin at 9:30am.
Fireworks negatively impact an array of individuals and pets. Please be respectful of your neighbors and do not set off illegal fireworks, especially late at night. As we are close to July 4th, and there will be no local official celebrations, the Auburn Examiner advises those who know they have adverse reactions to fireworks to prepare as well as they are able.**
City of Auburn Regulations
The City of Auburn passed new legislation related to firework regulations. The new regulations, as per the City of Auburn website read as follows:
Discharge of legal* fireworks is allowed on July 4th only, between the hours of 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM Discharge is also allowed from 6:00 PM on December 31, to 1:00 AM on January 1.
You must be at least 16 years old to purchase legal fireworks.
Increased Enforcement
The Auburn Police Department will cite those using fireworks unlawfully with a possible fine of up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail. Those discharging fireworks recklessly face up to a $5,000 fine and a year in jail. Anyone caught in possession of a device containing more than 2 grains of pyrotechnic charge (such as an M80) may be charged with a felony, punishable up to 20 years in prison.
Citizens can assist the City with this stepped-up emphasis by calling our non-emergency number at 253-288-2121 when fireworks are illegally discharged in their neighborhood.
Tips For Fireworks Safety
- Consider attending a public display as a safe alternative
- Buy and use only legal fireworks
- Follow directions and safety recommendations printed on the fireworks
- Maintain adult supervision
- Use fireworks in an area clear of materials that can burn (grass, bark, trees)
- Keep garden hoses ready
- Wet down fireworks display area
- Light one item at a time, move away quickly and keep a safe distance
- Dispose of used fireworks by first soaking them in water
- Trim any tall grass close to buildings or fences
- Clean all gutters and move burnable materials away from homes
- Place minor burns in cool water, call 911 if you need further assistance
