Late Sunday afternoon snowflakes began to drift down and slowly coat the city of Auburn in a powdery blanket of white. Throughout the night the snow continued on and off. The slow but persistent snowfall gave Auburn its first white Christmas since 2008. Auburn saw roughly 3 inches of snow throughout the city, just the right amount to enjoy winter games but not too much to overwhelm the city.

Unfortunately the snow wasn’t fun for everyone. Though the city began deicing and plowing Sunday night, snow and ice remained on the roads causing hazardous driving conditions. Throughout the city vehicles were seen abandoned on the side of the road, a frequent sight around the Puget Sound in snowy conditions. One man was lucky after his SUV turned on it’s side along Lake Tapps Pkwy. Witnesses shared they saw the driver out speaking and laughing with rescue workers on the scene, apparently finding humor in his situation.
One ValleyComm dispatcher indicated the snow and icy road conditions made for a longer and busier shift for the dispatch call center. 
The roads are not the only thing that are slick, so please be cautious as you walk. Not all sidewalks or parking lots have been (fully) shoveled and/or deiced.
