APD to Perform Fireworks Emphasis Patrols

Auburn PD has announced that Patrol Officers will begin extra firework emphasis patrols Monday, June 24th. These patrols will run each night through July 5th.

APD requests that all fireworks complaints be reported to 253-288-2121. “Remember that it is illegal to discharge any firework within the city except on the 4th of July,” stated APD’s Facebook post.

“Fireworks that are legal can only be discharged in the city on July 4th. Fireworks may be discharged at the Muckleshoot Fireworks stands now through July 5th; Sunday through Thursday between 11:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 AM.”

As per APD, “Legal fireworks that may be discharged in the city on the 4th of July include Sparklers, Cylindrical Fountains, Cone Fountains, Illuminating Torches, Wheels, Ground Spinners, Flitter Sparklers, and Smoke Devices.
In addition to the above-listed fireworks, the following can be discharged on Federal-Tribal Lands. Sky Rockets, Chasers, Missile Type Rockets, Mortars, Firecrackers, and Salutes.”

Not So Fun Fireworks Facts

Valley Regional Fire Authority recently posted a reminder of the dangers of fireworks.  “Each year U.S. hospital emergency rooms see an estimated 12,900 people for fireworks-related injuries. In Washington State, there were 262 reported fireworks-related injuries in 2017.

Which part of the body sees the highest number of fireworks-related injuries? Hand or Finger with 31% of fireworks-related injuries, followed by Head, Face or Ear at 22%.
