Below are just a few of the calls the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to for the week of June 22-28, 2020. VRFA firefighters responded to a total of 222 calls for service. 168 were aid calls, 10 were fire calls and 44 were categorized as other.
Calls for Service:
- Aid Call: (Auburn) On Monday, June 22 at 7:28 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female who was suffering from the effects of ingesting methamphetamine. The patient was evaluated and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by private ambulance.
- Residential Fire: (Lea Hill) On Tuesday, June 23 at 10:12 a.m., firefighters responded to a single-family house on fire. The reporting party said the house was occupied. Firefighters arrived and found the upper floor fully involved, and a man running into the house to find occupants. The first arriving engine put a hose line on the fire, and simultaneously searched the areas of the home they could get to. It was later determined that the occupant had escaped prior to the arrival of the VRFA crews. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- CPR: (Auburn) On Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 7:27 p.m., firefighters responded to a middle-aged male that collapsed in the middle of Auburn Way North and went unconscious and unresponsive due to an opioid drug overdose. Auburn Police arrived on scene first, administered naloxone, and initiated CPR. Firefighters and King County Medic One continued treatment and care for the patient. Medic 6 transported the patient to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further evaluation.
- Commercial Vehicle Fire: (Lea Hill) On Thursday, June 25 at 10:57 a.m., firefighters responded to a commercial vehicle fire. The fire was contained to the bed of the truck and extinguished.
- River Rescue: (Auburn) On Friday, June 26 at 4:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the Green River for two swimmers lost on the river. Personnel from the Zone 3 dive and swift water teams responded along with Mountain View Fire and Rescue personnel and Guardian One to find the swimmers. VRFA dive team members launched the boat and proceeded upstream from Highway 18. Guardian One found the swimmers on a sand bar and was able to land and bring them to safety.
- River Rescue: (Flaming Geyser Park) On Friday, June 26th at 10:43 p.m., VRFA personnel responded mutual aid with Zone 3 swift water and dive teams for 2 people stuck in the river. Dive 333 personnel put the raft in the river and were able to locate the two people and take them downstream to the next take out point. The victims were turned over to medical personnel for evaluation.
- Dog Bite: (Pacific) On Saturday, June 27 at 2:21 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult male who was attacked by a dog and bitten in the buttocks. Firefighters treated the patient and he was transported by private vehicle to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further evaluation.
- Car Fire: (Highway 18) On Sunday, June 28 at 8:33 p.m., firefighters responded to a car fire on the Eastbound lanes of Highway 18. Firefighters arrived to find the car fully involved. The driver, a child, and their dog had escaped the vehicle unharmed.
Fire Investigations:
- FMO personnel conducted one of 2 Certified Fire Investigator tests for WSP under the IFSAC
protocols. The test consisted of live burn exercises, scene examinations including an accelerant
for detection K-9 from ATF, interview and interrogation, and presentations. Nine candidates
successfully passed this portion of the test. - On Friday, June 26, a fireworks-related injury occurred in the 2400 block of Auburn Way S. in
the City of Auburn. The adult was treated and transported to a nearby trauma center for injuries.[yikes-mailchimp form=”1″]
