The following information was provided by VRFA regarding an incident that occurred at early morning Sunday, September 1st.

“Early Sunday morning an Engine from the Valley Regional Fire Authority was struck by a passing vehicle while southbound SR 167. The engine was protecting the scene for a previous motor vehicle accident. Thankfully no one was injured. This is a good reminder for everyone to stay safe and alert while driving especially around emergency vehicles.”

Engine 31 was on scene with Aid 32,  treating an injured patient.  Valley Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1352 expanded on the incident on their Facebook page, stating “while performing patient care, crews were surprised by a loud crashing sound and discovered that a vehicle had crashed into the back of Engine 31. People often wonder why we take up so much room while operating on the freeway and this is a perfect example of why. If Engine 31 were not parked to protect the scene, there is a chance that this could have resulted in serious injuries or even fatalities to our members or civilians who were on the scene. While it is disappointing that our brand new engine has been damaged, we are thankful that there were no injuries to our members.”
