VRFA Blotter: July 6-12, 2020

Below are just a few of the calls the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to for the week of July 6-12, 2020. VRFA firefighters responded to a total of 245 calls for service during this week.  182 were aid calls, 13 were fire calls, and 50 were categorized as other. Below are just a few of the calls VRFA crews responded to.

911 Calls for Service

  • Aid Call: (Lea Hill) on July 6 at 6:32 p.m. firefighters and King County Medics responded to a
    juvenile that was unresponsive. Firefighters and King County Medics treated him at the scene.
    The patient was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by private ambulance for further
    evaluation and treatment.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Tuesday, July 7 at 1:22 pm., firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident on 3rd St. SE. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. There was one female complaining of shoulder pain. The patient was treated on scene by VRFA personnel and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center by a VRFA aid unit.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Pacific Raceway) On Wednesday, July 8 at 7:45 p.m., firefighters responded on a mutual aid call with Mountain View Fire and Rescue for a severe racecar crash. VRFA firefighters assisted with patient care and gathering information on the patient. King County medics treated the patient on scene and then transported the patient to Harborview Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
  • Dumpster Fire: (Auburn) On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 6:09 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a reported dumpster fire. Crews arrived to find a large 30-yard dumpster filled with cardboard rolls at the exterior of a commercial structure. The fire was contained to the container and the debris inside overhauled. Video cameras on the business showed that the cause of the fire was due to an improperly discarded cigarette.

  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Thursday, July 9 at 8:44 p.m., firefighters responded to single motorcycle accident. The driver was a middle-aged male with multisystem trauma. Firefighters and King County Paramedics evaluated the patient and began treatment on scene. Paramedics transported the patient to Harbor View Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
  • River Rescue: (Auburn – Green River) On Saturday, July 11 at 5:19 p.m., Swift water Rescue Technicians responded as part of a multi-agency response to assist two kayakers who were stranded on the river. Technicians rafted from Neely Mansion to the stranded kayakers and assisted them across the river and provided transport to an extraction point. Neither of the kayakers were injured.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: (North Auburn) On Sunday, July 12 at 12:17 a.m., firefighters and King County Medic One responded to a motor vehicle accident on West Valley Highway. A car had collided with a semi-truck trailer. The car suffered significant damage. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased driver was left in the vehicle until Auburn Police concluded their investigation. Firefighters were called out in the early morning to assist Auburn police with removing the driver from the vehicle.

Fire Investigations:

  • On Monday, July 6, an accidental fire occurred in the 200 block of D St NW in the City of Auburn.
    The fire occurred in a commercial occupancy and was the result of sparks igniting combustible
    material on the intake of mechanical equipment. The fire was contained to the intake duct and
    was extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system. Dollar loss is minimal.
