Volunteers Help Clean Sweep Auburn

Each year* the City of Auburn celebrates Earth Day with its annual Clean Sweep. The Saturday of service (usually closest to April 22nd) is a day for volunteers to gather and tackle projects to help put a shine on the city for spring.

For this year’s Clean Sweep over 350 volunteers worked across 22 different sites throughout the city, on nearly two dozen projects. Some of the projects included litter pick-up, blackberry removal, park clean-up, and environmental restoration.

Thank you to all who gave their time this weekend to help contribute to making and keeping our city clean and beautiful.

If you’d like to volunteer to give back to the city year-round, you can sign up to adopt a street. Instead of adopting a road (so, babysitting a road?) you can volunteer to do a one-time clean-up. Applications can be submitted online, emailed, or mailed.

One-Time Cleanup

  • Complete the Application – Adopt-a-Street Application
  • If approved you will be sent a supply kit that contains bags, gloves and face masks.
  • Have all participants watch the safety training video prior to the cleanup. – Safety Training Video
  • Have all participants complete a waiver prior to the cleanup.  Minors between the ages of 15 and 17 need parent or guardian permission and minors under the age of 15 may not participate.
  • After the cleanup is done, complete an Activity Report and Roster so that the City knows who participated, how many full bags we need to collect, if there are any hazardous items, and if there were any incidents.
  • Something to keep in mind is that it will take the City a little while to review and approve an application and mail supplies to you.  You should plan on two weeks from the time you submit an application to the time you receive your supplies and can do the cleanup.
  • Not all locations can be approved.  If the requested location is not approved, the City will work with applicants to find a suitable location.

If you have photos from Auburn’s 2021 Clean Sweep you’d like us to publish, please email them to contact@auburnexaminer.com

*We’re ignoring 2020 and you should too.
