Scott Banke was just 10-years-old when he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, changing his and his family’s life forever.  Throughout his battle with bone cancer, Scott’s determination never wavered.  Perhaps more notable was the inspiring positive attitude this courageous young boy had in his two-year journey.  “his loving spirit, mischievous eyes and his unique ability to entertain…would make others smile and laugh, even when times were tough!”SYL, Scott Banke, See Ya Later, Auburn Gold Course, 29th Birthday

The See-Ya Later Foundation was formed to carry on Scott’s legacy.  It was founded in 2006 in McMinnville, OR and expanded to Auburn in 2010.  The foundation has been serving youth and families in the area ever since. With the mission of “Inspire Youth and Encourage Families,” this foundation does just that.

The charity’s name came from a video made on a cruise Scott took through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Capturing the end of the day with the camera turned to himself, Scott ended the video saying “See-ya later!”  This brief but poignant clip was played at the end of Scott’s memorial service, telling over 1,100 people “See-ya later!” and beginning a new journey of hope for so many.

The foundation serves South King and North Pierce County.  The primary focus of SYL is to serve local families in medical crisis. In most cases, this means children diagnosed with cancer or another life-threatening illness. The foundation provides support to the families that best suits that family in their time of need.

Beyond providing support to these families, SYL offers a variety of kids’ sports camps for ages 6-13.  Promoting higher education, they also offer college scholarships for students that are proven impact makers that will make a positive difference in the lives of others in college and beyond.

In honor of Scott’s 29th birthday, 4 golfers have braved the rain today to hit the links at the Auburn Golf Course to raise funds for the SYL Foundation. They are taking on the challenge, as a foursome, of completing 100 consecutive holes of play in 8 hours to raise awareness for SYL and support for families in medical crisis.

The SYL Foundation is seeking donations in the amount of $29.00 from supporters to honor Scott’s Birthday.  The goal is to receive 100 donations today.  85 donations are still needed to meet the day’s goal.  Tax-deductible donations can be made on the SYL website.

The next SYL event is the annual team trivia challenge, held at Bogey’s Public House on March 27th.  Registration for trivia ends tomorrow.
