Roadwork on Stewart Rd from Valentine to Butte in PAcific begins this week. The road improvements are a part of a larger construction project breaking ground in the city.

With many components to the improvements, this project requires collaboration from multiple groups. Updates to the Stewart Road corridor include:

  • Widening the road to four lanes
  • Updated, longer, railroad crossing
  • A new traffic signal at Butte Ave intersection

The project is slated to go through September 2022.

Pacific Police Chief Craig Schwartz said that though the road work “will be in the section of road between Valentine Ave and Butte Ave SE, [it] will probably have significant impacts over a wider area since so much commute traffic goes through that area.”

The city will provide updates on the project’s progression. In addition to providing status updates on the project, these updates are intended to give “a better understanding of what all goes into a project of this scale,” said Isaiah Ragland, City of Pacific Special Events and Social Media Coordinator.
Road work on Milwaukee Blvd S. near City Hall on 3rd Avenue is expected to begin in June.
Schwartz reminded “that fines in construction zones are doubled, and that traffic conditions could be worsened during the construction.”
