Today, members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Dr. Kim Schrier for re-election. Congresswoman Schrier currently represents Washington’s 8th Congressional District, which stretches from the Seattle suburbs to the orchard country of the Columbia River basin.

“Dr. Schrier takes nothing for granted and has already proven that she will look out for older people in Washington. She has earned a lifetime 100% score in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record,” said Jackie Boschok, president of the Washington State Alliance for Retired Americans, which represents union retirees and community activists across the Evergreen State. “She knows that seniors in her district live on fixed incomes, and she has battled every day to protect our retirement security.”

Congresswoman Schrier accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 190,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65.

“As a doctor, I know how important affordable healthcare is, especially for older Americans. That’s why I’ve worked to cap out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for seniors and helped pass a bill to give Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. I’ve also fought to protect Social Security and Medicare from benefit cuts, because it’s critical that these programs be available for current and future generations.”

Boschok noted the $500 billion in proposed Medicare cuts by the Trump Administration in her endorsement speech, and the rising concern among seniors about the cost of healthcare in the midst of a pandemic.

“Now more than ever, it is vital that we have representatives in D.C. who care about older Washingtonians and vote accordingly,” emphasized Boschok. “In these uncertain times, voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
