Residents Raise Thousands for Auburn Food Bank by Going Digital with WM

Three middle-aged white women hold an oversized check from Waste Management made out to the Auburn Food Bank for $5,000 Auburn residents jumped at an offer to green up their WM accounts and help those in need at the same time. The result is a $5,000 check for Mayor Nancy Backus to present to the Auburn Food Bank on Wednesday.

The initiative was part of the contract the city recently renewed with WM. For every resident who signed up for paperless billing, automatic payment, downloaded the My WM App or just provided their preferred method of contact, WM donated $1 to the Auburn Food Bank, until reaching $5,000.

“This is a great example of how Auburn residents step up to support their local food bank and their neighbors who depend on it,” said Mayor Backus. “The work of the Auburn Food Bank has never been more important as grocery prices continue to rise.”

Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank, agrees the donation comes at a crucial time. “Our community is in need and once again our residents, our city leadership and WM have answered the call,” said Christian.

Laura Moser, WM public sector manager for Auburn, said transitioning to digital channels adds customer convenience and reduces waste. “It’s a win-win when you combine that with supporting a great cause like the Auburn Food Bank.”
