The statement of nomination reads as follows:

The City of Pacific Police Department is an example of resident-focused, community policing. According to the Police Chief’s statement on the city website, their vision as a department is to set “the standard of excellence in small-city policing” as a proactive and progressive organization. In 2020, during the COVID-19 crisis, the Pacific PD continually stood out as a leader in public outreach and information sharing. They used their social media pages to engage the community and set an example: treating the crisis in the most serious way, encouraging compliance with state mandates, and wearing masks in public. Officers participated in mask distribution events. In addition, in the face of the economic challenges arising from the crisis, the PD led collections to create “Care Kits” for residents at Rainier Vista senior living community and played an important role in sharing information with the community about other assistance programs. As an affirmation of their commitment to professionalism and community policing, the Pacific PD again stepped up as a community leader, joining with nine other departments in the South Sound in mid-2020 to release a video condemning police brutality against Black people in the United States.

The SPOTLIGHT Awards Program is an annual initiative of the Auburn Area CONNECT Chamber of Commerce that recognizes businesses, nonprofits and community leaders in the Auburn Area, who serve the community and, through their business products/services, employee programs, volunteerism and/or mission statement, benefit and improve the Auburn Area and help our region thrive as a center of economic activity and social leadership in the South Puget Sound. Members of the community are invited each year to nominate a deserving business, nonprofit or individual leader for our SPOTLIGHT recognition. Following the nomination period, Auburn Area CONNECT board members and members of the business community vote on the nomination they believe best represents the spirit of each award.
