Obituary: Richard “Dick” Wilkin II

Richard “Dick” Wilkin II passed away on August 24, 2020.

Dick was born February 19, 1933 in Norfolk, Virginia to Richard Howard Wilkin Sr. and Ruby Clayton Wilkin, he was raised in Yakima, and Spokane WA. with his older sister Virginia (Ginny).

Dick loved to travel, when he was a teenager, he did a bike trip to tour the states with a buddy from Spokane that turned out to be quit an adventure. One of his travels brought him to Alaska where he met Ada Bruce in Sitka, they were married in June 1957. Dick was a BIA Security Guard and Shore Boat Driver on Mt. Edgecumbe in the 60’s, and later went to work with Alaska Airlines until retirement in 2002. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, big family gatherings, picnics on the islands around Sitka and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by wife Ada Wilkin, mother Ruby Henke, father Richard Wilkin Sr., Sister Virginia (Ginny) Holbrook, Daughter in Law Linda Wilkin, grandson Stephen Wilkin and great-great grandson Urijah Lee.

Survivors include son Rick Wilkin, his children Corey, Nicole and Jamie all of Salmon WA; daughter Bernadette Bruce, her children Charidy (Micah) McDaniels and Vicki Lee all of Auburn WA; daughter Vicki Webb (Tom) of Portola, CA, her children Tommy of Ormand Beach FL and Richard (Sabrina) of Sparks NV; daughter Lori Stedman (Mike) their children Jakob (Rachel) and Matt all of Juneau AK.; son Richard T. Wilkin III of WA; daughter Lennette (Cookie) Harlin (Ron) her children Mary and Lisa all of Kelso, WA; son Arnold Wilkin, of Pacific WA, his child Tyler; daughter Ruby Delach her children Christopher, Jess, Samantha and Anna all of WA; daughter Tammy Mears (Tim) their children James of Sitka, AK and Michael (Clarise) of Silverdale, WA; son Robert Wilkin (Doris) their children Robert Jr and Brenda all of AK, Niece Denise Daniels her children Rick, and Gina of WA, nephew Dale Schubach of WA, and niece Val Paddock (Melvin) of Spokane WA their children Daniel of Spokane WA and Monica Shriver of Sacramento CA; Cousin Carol Griffith of WA; 26 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dick is greatly missed by his family and loved ones. Family members are very thankful for all the condolences and payers that have been received from many family friends. To honor Dick’s wishes there will be no services, however, due to COVID the family will have a private memorial to celebrate his life.
