ASD School Board Director Robyn Mulenga Running for Auburn City Council

Robyn Mulenga announced her candidacy for Auburn City Council Position No. 5 in May.  She has been a resident of Auburn for 12 years.  Mulenga is currently a member of the Auburn School board, as District Director no. 2.  Mulenga’s experience on the Auburn School Board has provided her invaluable experience.  Harnessing this experience, she is now running for the city council with the goal of creating a welcoming environment where residents want to live, work and see their businesses flourish.

In her role as a school board member, Mulenga was influential in bringing a bond supported by voters for two new elementary schools and six replacement schools.  She is excited about the difference these new schools will make in both the lives of Auburn’s children and educators.

Mulenga has also been instrumental in developing the strategic direction for the district through the newly adopted five-year strategic plan.  One of the most important goals of the plan Mulenga and her colleagues focused on is that all students graduate.

In addition to her work on the School Board, Mulenga serves on the Cities and Schools Forum where she is helping to drive diversity for a more inclusive community.  Mulenga believes it’s essential to create an environment where all people feel accepted. For the past three years, she has worked in partnership with her fellow school board directors to introduce a racial equity policy in the district. The Auburn School Board is proud of this accomplishment and recently won the Washington School Board State of Distinction award for their efforts.

In addition to creating a safer Auburn, some of Mulenga’s goals include introducing solutions for homelessness and continuing the active engagement between the school district and the city.  Mulenga says, “I believe on working on goals that are important to our community.”

Mulenga develops land contracts for the federal government, attended Pacific Lutheran University and has a son that attends middle school in Auburn and another son at Stanford University.
