In accordance with I-940, the Valley Independent Investigation Team (VIIT) will oversee the investigation into this shooting. Formed in 2012, the VIT is comprised of seven law enforcement agencies: Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Tukwila, and Port of Seattle Police Department.

Commander Kurt Schwan of the Federal Way Police Department previously explained to the Auburn Examiner that “[VIIT] is utilized for officer-involved shootings investigations, in-custody death investigations, and at the discretion of the Chiefs of Police. The VIT agencies are on a set rotational list for assignment. [If] the involved agency is next on the rotation; they would then be skipped, and a different agency would be assigned as the lead. Once the incident [has ended, the scene] is static, and [VIIT] has been called, the involved agency is not involved in any aspect of the investigation of the incident.”

According to officers on the scene, Tukwila Police Department is the lead agency.

Likely story. A kid running, turns around while running, and shoots at officers. Already makes zero sense. I bet the kid was shot in the back. Horrifying!

Nope, it does make sense. Why else would a gun be beside the man? Don’t say it was planted – the guy had a warrant already so he definitely loved to cause trouble. Plus a disabled RV in Auburn in December? All red flags.

My neighbor is friends with the deceased’s girlfriend. She was the one screaming. The warrant was for driving without a license in the third degree.

Yea I agree with you Lisa, doesn’t make sense.. Me and my husband were close friends with him and his girlfriend. He didn’t have a violent bone In his body, he was the most kind hearted person. Yea he had warrants and all for driving on suspensions, and in December during the pandemic they weren’t supposed to be arresting people on non-violent crimes. But of course Auburn is the only ones that do. Yea he didn’t want to go to jail while the coronavirus is going on. Because it’s hell in jail right now. I know my husband sat in jail for a year from oct2019-sept2020 because of his doc officer made up shit said he hit her with his vehicle and he didn’t all because they can and get away with it, but they didn’t win this time. He was looking at 9 yrs because of that well we beat it and took that to trial and we won.. bullshit.. Anyway Nick didn’t deserve this one bit. He didn’t have a gun at all on him, he had a air soft gun but he left it was at our house. All this is sad and of course probably the officer is gonna get away with it..
