Late Wednesday Superintendent Dr. Alan Spicciati sent home a letter to district families alerting to the incident.  The letter confirmed that “at no point, to our knowledge, was the firearm shown or brandished on school grounds by the student. We are not aware of any targeted threats at Auburn High or any other school.”  Spicciati further assured that “Students and staff were safe at all times during this incident.”

At this time, ASD is not releasing any information about the student.  ASD does not provide information pertaining to students’ past disciplinary information.

“Students and staff were safe at all times during this incident.”

The school district shared this statement today, “Though not an ideal situation, school district security, and law enforcement were professional and handled the situation efficiently and safely.  There was no targeted threat at the school. Students and staff were safe at all times during this incident.”

UPDATE 2:08 pm: Kent Police have confirmed that the student arrested is a 19-year-old male.  KPD had probable cause to arrest the student in relation to a drive-by shooting that occurred in Kent.  KPD coordinated with the Auburn Police Department and ASD to execute the arrest.  The student cooperated and did not arrest.  Further tests are being conducted to know if the firearm recovered from the student’s possessions is associated with the shooting.
