It is normal protocol for the United States flag to be flown at half-staff in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day (4 U.S. Flag Code § 7). However, there is an exception to that protocol that reads, “unless that day is also Armed Forces Day.” This year May 15 is also Armed Forces Day and according to U.S. Flag Code, the flag should be flown at full-staff.

A reported 362 officers died in the line of duty in 2020. 234 of those officers died of COVID-19, 14 from 9/11 related illness. The nonprofit Blue Help has verified 172 law enforcement officers died by suicide in the year 2020. Four were from Washington.
The 2021 National Police Week has been postponed until October 2021 due to COVID-19.
Auburn Mayor, Nancy Backus, made an official proclamation declaring the week of May 9-15, 2021 “National Police Week.” May 13 was observed as “National Peace Officers Day,” in the City of Auburn.
