Last Thursday Firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and law enforcement officers throughout King County gathered in front of hospitals to celebrate healthcare workers. Valley Regional Fire Authority, Auburn Police and American Medical Response were scheduled to stage in front of MultiCare Auburn Medical Center at 7 p.m. to show their appreciation for their fellow front line workers. The grand gesture didn’t go quite as planned.
Just after 6 p.m. crews from VRFA were called to a residential fire in Algona. Additional units were quickly called to the scene. A second alarm required South King Fire and Rescue to assist in knocking down the blaze. The fire was declared put down about an hour later. The fire destroyed the garage and a vacant mobile home on the property, but the main house was saved.
The homeowner and her pet, who were inside the home, both made it out safely. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The housefire in Algona did not deter Deputy Chief Dave Larberg, officers from Auburn Police or AMR staff from celebrating the MultiCare Auburn Medical Center staff. “We are a small but mighty group,” said Public Information & Education Officer Valley Regional Fire Authority Kelly Hawks.
Even before the parade of first responders arrived a family displayed their hope and gratitude through art on the hospital’s sidewalks.
To all the healthcare workers and first responders (dispatchers, EMTs, firefighters, law enforcement and paramedics) out on the front lines – thank you for all that you do. You’re one of the many hands holding us together during this crisis.
