SUMMARY:Learn about Woodpeckers of Washington at free event on Wednesday\, May 21
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that woodpeckers can slam their heads into solid wood up to 20 times a second? \nOuch. \nNature lovers and birding enthusiasts are invited to explore the fascinating world of woodpeckers at a free educational talk hosted by Soos Creek Botanical Garden on Wednesday\, May 21. \nThe event\, part of the Garden’s “Pavilion by the Pond” program\, will feature master birder and author Connie Sidles\, who will present “Woodpeckers of Washington” from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the garden’s scenic grounds located at 29308 132nd Avenue SE in Auburn (map below). \nSidles will share insights into all 13 species of woodpeckers found throughout Washington\, from the lowlands to the foothills. \n“These birds are colorful\, charismatic and critical to the ecosystem\,” Sidles said. \nThe program will explore how these remarkable birds search for food\, raise their young\, and communicate—often by pecking up to 20 times per second into solid wood. \nAttendees will gain a deeper appreciation for these “colorful and charismatic” birds\, which Sidles says are a critical part of the state’s ecosystems. \nThe event is free and open to the public. \nMore information is available here.
