Don’t Miss Auburn’s 57th Annual Veterans Parade [PHOTO GALLERY]

The week before or the day after, which one is it for the 2022 Auburn Veteran’s Parade? Great question, I would love to tell you. (I love her, too #IYKYK) The 57th Annual Veterans Parade & Observance is Saturday, November 5, 2022. The parade is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., proceeding west on Main Street from E Street SE to A Street NW.

57th Annual Veterans Parade & Observance

Auburn’s Main Street Tribute Banners

There’s a lot of cool stuff about the parade, but you need know to know about the tribute banners hung along Main Street. Created for the 50th anniversary of the parade, the tribute banners are in recognition of members of the U.S. Armed Forces that live or work in Auburn or are immediate family to an Auburn resident. Businesses, non-profit entities, and Veteran Service Organizations based in Auburn may also sponsor a banner.

Seeing the names of the banners can be challenging, especially when driving (eyes on the road and all). If you come downtown regularly, are out for the parade, or are even walking there’s a good chance you’ll miss a banner. I wanted to ensure there weren’t any missed:

If you sponsored a tribute banner and would like to provide information on the veteran, soldier, or organization you can email contact@auburnexaminer.com. If I happened to miss a banner, please also let me know.

Parade information

We all know the Veterans Parade starts with a flyover and if ya didn’t, now ya do. This year’s flyover will be about as subtle as your neighbor’s celebration when the Seahawks score. Yeah, you know who I’m talking about, and so does your dog. A U.S. Air ForceC-17 Globemaster III by the 446th Airlift Wing from McChord Air Force Base is scheduled to fly over at 11:00 a.m. (pro tip: this ain’t Delta, the USAF is on time).

UPDATE: The 446th Airlift Wing Command will unfortunately no longer be able to provide a C-17 fly over.

Just as your phone starts to chill from all the alerts about that ruckus, is when the ‘what’s going on?!’ posts will start rolling in. You’ll have the King County Sherriff’s Office to thank, as it flies Guardian2, a UH-1H ‘Huey’ helicopter, low over the parade route. (scheduled 11:15 a.m.).

Parade participants include veteran groups, military marching units, honor guards and ROTC Units, antique military vehicles, drill teams, and of course lots of marching bands, including America’s First Corps Band from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Navy Band Northwest. (click here for a full list.)

With the size and popularity of the parade, you should arrive early and pack your patience. Consider bringing a folding chair, blanket, and maybe earplugs.

If you’re out for the parade then take the time and opportunity to support our local small businesses (you’d never guess how many are owned by or employ veterans). Just, whatever you do, don’t park in local business and residential parking lots! Please be courteous when parking in the areas surrounding the procession route.
