Comcast has expanded broadband service to more than 11,000 additional homes and businesses statewide during the first half of 2021, including major projects in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane counties.

The expansions are the latest in the company’s work to connect local communities to broadband Internet resources. Comcast has invested nearly $1 billion in technology and infrastructure in Washington during the last three years, including upgrades to its broadband network.

Expanding Broadband in Auburn

In Auburn, Comcast finalized building services to more than 400 new locations during the first quarter of 2021. Among these locations is The Verge, a new 200 plus-unit apartment complex located downtown.

“Access to reliable internet is the cornerstone of a thriving community, whether that be access to information, healthcare services or simply connecting with family and friends,” said Mayor Nancy Backus, City of Auburn. “The on-going expansion of broadband availability in Auburn is key to the health and success of our residents and I applaud Comcast for their continued commitment to providing this service.”

In addition to the 400 Auburn locations, Comcast and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe partnered for a $3 million broadband expansion. This expansion will bring expanded broadband services to 600 homes and businesses located on tribal and non-tribal lands in and around the Tribe’s community campus.

“Bringing expanded and reliable high-speed internet service to the Muckleshoot Community has long been a priority for the Tribal Council and we are pleased that, working with Comcast, we were able to bring this project to a successful conclusion,” said Muckleshoot Tribal Council Chair Jaison Elkins.

Two large buildings in neighboring Bonney Lake also received expanded services. The new connection will support more than 400 residents in a new senior living community.

Comcast’s Continued Expansion in Washington

Comcast also is investing more than $13.6 million to expand broadband service to nearly 3,000 additional homes and businesses in rural areas of Washington state.

The residents in the expansion locations will have access to all Xfinity products, including Internet Essentials, the largest and most comprehensive low-cost Internet adoption program for low-income Americans. Comcast has connected 560,000 low-income individuals in Washington to broadband Internet over the last decade.

“As the state looks to focus in on making certain all citizens have access to and can afford future proof and scalable technologies, we are pleased to see the strong work Comcast is doing to deliver on those goals throughout Washington state,” said Russ Elliott, Director, Washington State Broadband Office.
