Celebrate Student Press Freedom Day

Student Press Freedom Day is a national day of action to celebrate the contributions of student journalists.  This day also highlights the support student journalists, and their advisers, need as they work hard and face many challenges.

“For more than three decades, far too many student journalists have been censored by image-conscious school administrators, or intimidated to self-censor or not report on “controversial” topics that matter to their peers and community,” states the Student Press Law Center.  Two years ago Washington became the 14th state to protect the rights of student journalists.

This year’s theme for Student Press Freedom Day is “This is What Student Press Freedom Looks Like.” Auburn is home to several student-run newspapers.  Celebrate the work of these students by reading and supporting these newspapers when you can:

Auburn High School: The Troy InVoice
Auburn Mountainview High School: InView News
Auburn Riverside High School: InFlight
Mt. Baker Middle School: Canine Chronicle

Green River College: The Current
