Auburn’s 57th Annual Veterans Parade [Photos, Video]

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but we had a little parade here in Auburn a couple of weeks ago. Though it called for rain it was a brisk, beautiful day for the annual parade and observance. Veteran and military groups, dignitaries, marching bands, remarkable vehicles, and community groups made their way down  Main street, entertaining parade-goers with a steady stream of all things patriotic.

Thank you again to all of our military service members past and present, veteran services and groups, and all of the parade’s participants. Auburn’s veterans parade is always an amazing event! And if you didn’t get enough parade this month, you only have to wait just under two weeks for the Lighted Santa Parade!

1 Auburn Police Traffic Unit Kicking off Auburn’s 57th annual Veterans parade are members of the Auburn Police Department’s traffic division.  These officers, three of which are veterans themselves, consider it an honor and a privilege to lead the parade in recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by our veterans.
2 City of Auburn Mayor, Nancy Backus Let’s say hello to the City of Auburn’s Mayor, Nancy Backus!  Mayor Backus was elected to her first term as Mayor in 2014 and is the first female to hold the office in Auburn. Mayor Backus is accompanied by her daughter, Lucky….they’d both like to thank all of you for coming to Auburn today to help us honor our veterans and celebrate our 57th anniversary of this great parade!!!
3 America’s First Corps Band In front of you now is the first band of today, America’s First Corps Band, representing the United States Army, from Joint Base Lewis McChord. The First Corps Band is Commanded by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Charles Doswell.  Ladies and Gentlemen, America’s First Corps Band!
4 Colonel Bryan D. Schott – U.S. Army, 7th Infantry Division Representing the United States Army is Colonel Bryan D. Schott, Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis McChord. He is accompanied by his wife Nicky and their sons Hunter and Ethan. Colonel Schott commissioned into the Army as a Field Artillery Officer in 1997 and has commanded formations at the battery, battalion, and brigade levels. His awards include the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and he proudly wears the Air Assault Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Airborne Badge, the Jungle Tab, the Ranger Tab, and the Combat Action Badge. Wow! Ladies & Gentlemen, Colonel Schott! Thank you!
5 US Army – 189th Infantry Brigade Ladies & Gentlemen….here comes forty soldiers of the 189th Infantry Brigade, First Army Division West from Joint Base Lewis McChord, led by Lieutenant. Colonel Steven Beard and Command Sergeant Major Nathaniel Atkinson, the command team of the unit’s 3-364th Brigade Engineer Battalion. The 189th Infantry Brigade is a Combined Arms Training Brigade, and a vital asset of the United States Army. The 189th partners with Active, Reserve and National Guard units across the United States to prepare them to deploy, fight and win when our Nation calls. The 189th Infantry Brigade….outstanding – thank you!”
6 Colonel Alexander ‘Xander’ Bullock – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Here comes Colonel Alexander ‘Xander’ Bullock, the Commander of the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The dedicated military and civilian employees of the Seattle District are responsible for engineering solutions for our Nation’s toughest challenges. The Seattle District operates the Chittenden (Ballard) Locks and the award-winning Carl S. English Botanical Garden. Didi you know that the Ballard Locks is one of the most visited recreation sites in Seattle? The Seattle District is also a proud employer of Veterans and people with disabilities. More than 40 percent of its 800 employees and about 25 percent are people with disabilities.
7 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District White Hard Hat Brigade The White Hard Hat Brigade represents the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approximately 37,000 dedicated Civilians and Soldiers delivering engineering services to customers in more than 130 countries worldwide. Did you know the Corps of Engineer’s Howard A. Hansen Dam helps protect communities along the Green River — including Auburn — from catastrophic flooding? They say the dam protects about 400,000 residents and more than $21 billion in property. The Seattle District is proud veteran employer with veterans making up about half of its 820 employees.
8 Combat Logistics Battalion 23 Color Guard Representing the United States Marine Corps is the Combat Logistics Battalion 23 Color Guard, led by Sergeant Espana. Following the Color Guard is the Inspector-Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Gonzales, who has been serving in the Marine Corps since the Spring of 2006. She is joined by Sergent Major Kevin Fontenot, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1997. Thank you both and giant thank you to all those currently serving in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Armed Forces.
9 Navy Band Northwest Ladies and gentlemen, the Commander, Navy Region Northwest, Rear Admiral Mark Sucato is proud to present the Navy Band Northwest Marching Band. Navy Band Northwest is the United States Navy’s premier musical organization in the Pacific Northwest region. Navy Band Northwest serves to heighten esprit de corps throughout military and civilian communities, promote patriotism, and increase public awareness of the Navy’s mission. This 35-member active duty unit is comprised of professional Navy musicians performing in various ensembles including ceremonial and parade bands, concert band, rock band, brass band, and chamber ensembles.
10 Rear Admiral Mark Sucato – U.S. Navy Representing the United States Navy is the Rear Admiral of Navy Region Northwest, Mark Sucato.  He has completed combat deployments in support of Operations Southern Watch, Desert Fox, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He has had numerous ashore staff assignments and assumed command of Navy Region Northwest in May of 2022. Thank you Rear Admiral Sucato and the United States Navy!
11 Colonel Fazenbaker – U.S. Air Force, 62nd Airlift Wing Representing the United States Air Force is the Wing Commander of the 62nd Airlift Wing at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Colonel David A. Fazenbaker. He ensures the readiness of more than 2,400 active-duty military and civilian personnel, along with 40 permanently assigned C-17A Globlemaster III aircraft. Colonel Fazenbaker is joined by Chief Master Sergeant Timothey E. Hodgin.
12 U.S. Air Force Recruiting Services Up next, is the 361st Recruiting Squadron led by Lieutenant Colonel Mozambique Batts representing the United States Air Force and Space Force. Their area covers 728,000 square-miles across Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. They are accompanied by the Air Force Special Warfare component, the most specialized warriors on the planet. They are the professionals that other special forces look to when the mission calls for their unique skills and fearless commitment. Air and Space Force Recruiters are tasked with the mission to inspire, engage and recruit future Airmen and Guardians to deliver air and space power for America
13 13th Coast Guard District You can’t miss this next entry!! Welcome 13th Coast Guard District! In front of you now is a 29-foot Response Boat-Small Two from Coast Guard Station Seattle.  Aboard the board is Captain Olav Saboe, Chief of Staff from the Coast Guard 13th District headquartered in Seattle. He’s joined by some of the 2,000-plus men and women of the United States Coast Guard’s 13th District.  The 13th District provides critical maritime services to Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, covering more than 4,400 miles of coastline, 600 miles of inland waterways and a 125 mile international border with Canada.  Thank you to the United States Coast Guard!
14 Colonel Antony Braun – Washington Air National Guard Representing the Washington Air National Guard is Colonel Antony M. Braun, the Commander of the 225th Air Defense Squadron, Western Air Defense Sector. As Commander, Colonel Braun supervises 176 personnel in the planning, scheduling and execution of the 24-hour air defense mission in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE. Colonel Braun is accompanied by his spouse, Carey Braun. A special thank you Colonel Antony Braun and the Washington National Guard!

15 BAND 1 – Auburn Trojan Marching Band The Auburn Trojan Band is proud to perform in today’s parade in honor of our veterans. We wish to thank all veterans for their service and our performance today is dedicated to them. Following today’s parade, we are also proud to be hosting the 37th annual Auburn Veterans’ Day Marching Band competition featuring competition between many of the bands you will see in today’s parade. Tickets are available at the gate and everyone is welcome to come watch these amazing young musicians compete. Go Trojans!
16 Pritz Navaratnasingham – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Up next is Pritz NAVA-RUT-NA-SING-UM, representing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Seattle Regional Office. Pritz is the Executive Director for the Seattle VA Regional Office. He oversees a large benefits office with responsbility for all Veterans in the state of Washington and oversees national missions for all Army servicemembers in the IDES prgoram and VA appeals modernization. WOW! Big job.
17 Tahoma National Cemetery Coming up next are the fine folks representing the Tahoma National Cemetery, including their Director, Thomas Yokes. Tahoma National Cemetery opened October 1st, 1997. Serving Veterans and families for 25 years, they have completed over 67 thousand burials. Tahoma National Cemetery received the Governor’s Team Award at the Auburn Veterans Parade and Observance in 2019. Well done!
18 Washington Department of Veterans Affairs Representing the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs is the Director Alfie Alvarado-Ramos and Deputy Director David Puente. The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs mission is to connect veterans and their families to their benefits and services they have earned through their military service. We encourage you to check out our website to learn more about us, at www.dva.wa.gov.  Each year, the Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee recognizes individuals who devote time and energy into improving the lives of Washington’s veterans. The 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans award winners are coming up within the next few entries.
19 Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee Let’s welcome members of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, a 17-member committee representing federally recognized Veterans Service Organizations that are appointed by the Governor. The VAAC operates with the motto of “No Veteran Forgotten”, and serves in an advisory capacity to the Governor and the Director of the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs on matters pertaining to the veterans and their families in Washington state. Representing the VAAC today is Tom Davis, Chuck Wharton, Bob Wallace and Shellie Willis.
20 Women Veterans Advisory Committee Please help me welcome members of the Women Veterans Advisory Committee. The mission of the Women Veterans Advisory Committee is to advocate and assist Washington’s women veterans to ensure they have equitable access to federal and state veterans’ services and benefits earned through their honorable service to our country.
21 T.J. Morgan – 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans Superior Service Award Recipient The Veteran Affairs Advisory Committee awarded TJ Morgan with a 2022 Superior Service Award. TJ has been involved with the Marine Corps League since 2003. He has dedicated the last 19 years working to promote and provide relief for veterans trhoughout Washington State and the entire country. He has held leadership positions at the local and state level and now is the National Jr. Vice Commandant for the Marine Corps League. He is projected to be the National Commandant in 2025. He travels all over the state and country, investing his time to promote the interests and to preserve traditions of the United States Marine Corps. He has received many awards including the Chapel of Four Chaplains Bronze Medallion, Marine of the year for local, state and Division levels and the highest MCL award the Citizen Gold Medal. Congratulations TJ!
23 Graham-Kapowsin High School Army Junior ROTC Welcome Graham-Kapowsin High School Army Junior ROTC Eagle Battalion from Graham, Washington.  This is their 15th year participating in Auburn’s Veterans Parade. These cadets are attempting to earn a fifth award for the best military unit.  The Junior ROTC program motivates young people to be better citizens and commits to giving back to the community.  Well done!
24 BAND 2 – Auburn Riverside High School Band You are now looking that the Auburn Riverside High School Band program.  Welcome Ravens!  The band is Directed by Meghan Wagner. Drum Majors are: Ornela Amouzou-Adoun, Ashlynn Minear, Eduardo Racy, Kate Filiss, and Kylie Schoessler.  Student Teacher is Colton DeCarteret. The Auburn Riverside High School Marching Band is honored to participate today, and would like to thank our Veterans who have so bravely fought for us.
25 Nino Gray – 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans Distinguished Service Award Recipient Let’s say hello to Nino Gray, a 2022 Distinguished Service Award Winner. Nino is in his fourth season managing Seattle Seahawks military engagement programs. He served in the United States Army Infantry for 7 years before receiving an honorable discharge after suffering an injury. Nino represents the best in terms of the WDVA’s commitment to veterans, and their families. He has built & maintained relationships with local military bases, creating opportunities for military personnel to engage with the team through various unique experiences. Nino has led efforts for supply drops, playground builds, job fairs and mental health summits. Nino worked to facilitate over $500,000 in grants for these nonprofits.He is an active member of the local chapter of “Merging Veterans & Players” (MVP) which unites NFL alumni and veteran service members. Nino is a soldier who nearly lost his life when his Stryker was destroyed by a 400 lb. IED. He suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, and severe leg injuries. That experience along with his resilience and imagination have made Nino the perfect individual to lead the military programs for the Seattle Seahawks. Outstanding! Congratulations Nino, and thank you for your service!
26 Amy Tiemeyer – 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans Distinguished Service Award Recipient In front of us now is Amy Tiemeyer, a 2022 Distinguished Service Award Winner. Amy, a Veteran herself, has been an advocate and volunteer in the JBLM community on and off post for more than 15 years. She is currently the Washington State President for the Association of the United States Army. She also currently works for the Travis Manion Foundation, Pacific Northwest Region and serves on the Executive Board for Operation Ward 57, both nonprofits serving the military community. She describes herself as a volunteer-aholic and it’s the truth! She gives every waking moment back to her community!  Amazing Amy – thanks for all you do, and thank you for your service! Well done!
27 NW Veterans Resource Center – 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans Team Award And here comes representatives from the Northwest Veterans Resource Center. Welcome Levi Douglas, Christopher Osuna-Pertchert and Holly Rowan known as the Resource Center in Clallam County. When visiting this center, you are greeted with smiles, kindness, and respect. This team is the epitome of Veteran Services! Each person on their team goes above and beyond on and off the clock for their community, Veterans, and their families. They truly emulate empathy and connection in the Veteran community. They consistently lead by example and continuously show up for Veterans, oftentimes, even on the weekend. Their small team runs the office around the clock. They host a food and clothing bank that is located on-site and focus on making the appearance as close to a real store shopping experience as possible, a truly amazing sight to see! Their shared lived experiences as Veterans themselves are incredibly powerful. Job well done, all of you! Thank you and congratulations!
28 American Lake Golf Course Volunteers – 2022 Outstanding Service to Veterans Team Award You are now looking at some of the numerous volunteers of the American Lake Golf Course. The golf course is operated by 236 volunteers, comprised of veterans, families and community members. The volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks such as: management of the course, grounds keeping and maintenance, checking-in guests and assisting with events. The American Lake Golf Course offers rehabilitation therapy, socialization and support to those who have given so much for our country. Thank you to ALL the volunteers of the American Lake Golf Course!
29 Senator Timothy Sheldon – 2022 Legislator of the Year Award Here comes Senator Tim Sheldon, who represents the 35th District that serves Mason County, Parts of Thurston, and Kitsap Counties. He is the longest-serving member of the Legislature.Senator Sheldon has been instrumental in securing capital project funding for the creation of the Shelton Veterans Village to build a tiny house village for homeless veterans living in Mason County. This is an innovative approach to homelessness which makes housing the priority and it also recognizes the important contributions made by veterans who deserve support after their service to our country. Congratulations Senator Sheldon!

31 Muckleshoot Veterans Affairs It’s time to say hello to the Muckleshoot and Community Veteran Honor Guard. The honor guard is leading members of the Muckleshoot Veteran’s Affairs department. The group marches today to honor veterans and active duty, remember their history, and pass down a legacy of service to the next generation. Well done! Thank you Muckleshoot and Community Veteran Honor Guard!

33 BAND 3 – Auburn Mountainview High School Marching Band and Color Guard I can hear them coming….here comes Auburn Mountainview High School Marching Band, joined today by their color guard.  Located up on Lee Hill here in Auburn, this is their 16th year of parade performance.  The band and color guard are proud to represent the city of Auburn in the 57th annual Veterans Parade. We honor and thank our Veterans for their service. Well done Auburn Mountainview!!
34 James T. Cook – American Legion It is an honor to have the American Legion Department of Washington State Commaner, James T. Cook, joining us now! Mr. Cook is a retired Brigadier General, who served 34 years with the United States Army. WOW – thank you for your service, sir! Since retiring from the military, he is now Founder/Owner of a non-profit organization, JTC World or Join the Compassionate World, an organization that works with people that have PTSD. James is joined today by the Department Service Officer of the American Legion, Easter Luli.
35 American Legion Department of Washington Here comes the American Legion Department of Washington! The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919. It is the nation’s largest Veteran’s Service Organization committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. The state of Washington has 12 Districts which includes over 150 American Legion Posts. You’ll see a few of them coming up next. Ladies and gentlemen…. the American Legion Department of Washington!!
36 American Legion Auburn Post 78 Please welcome the American Legion Auburn Post 78. The American Legion Auburn Post 78 is made up of veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf Wars, Afghanistan and Iraq. This post hosted a community breakfast this morning at the Senior Activity Center and co-hosted the Remembrance Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park just before the parade. They’ve been proud members of the Auburn community since 1919. A BIG thank you to our American Legion members!
37 American Legion Kent Post 15 Please welcome members from the American Legion Post 15 from Kent. This group is made up of Veterans who participate in doing ‘Military Honors’ at Tahoma National Cemetery. The group is also comprised of sons of Legioners, Wives and daughters of Legioners, Legion Rider members and Young marines. Thank you American Legion Kent Post 15!
38 American Legion Riders Kent Post 15 Here comes the American Legion Riders Kent Post 15. They have a small, but strong group and are the backbone for the Kent American Legion Post.
39 American Legion Tacoma Post #2 Let’s say hello to the members of the American Legion Edward B. Rhodes Post #2 out of Tacoma. American Legion Post #2 was named after Luetenant Edward B. Rhodes who was killed in action during World War 1 in the Verdun Sector of France, on October 10, 1918. The post was chartered in Tacoma in 1919. This is the second oldest American Legion Post in Washington State!
40 American Legion Post 204 Service Girls Here comes the Service Girls American Legion Post TWO ZERO FOUR. This post was chartered in 1946. The post welcomes female Veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces. Well done ladies!
41 American Legion Post 79 – Snoqualmie Chapter Here comes the Snoqualmie Valley Veterans Honor Guard with American Legion Post 79. They serve the Veterans of the Greater Snoqualmie Valley including North Bend and Snoqualmie. Thank you Veterans!
42 Disabled American Veterans – Kent Chapter 33 A warm welcome to the Disabled American Veterans, Kent Chapter 33!!  Kent Post 33 has about 900 members and also has a vibrant ladies auxilliary unit.  Their primary fundraiser is the sales of the Forget-Me-Not flowers to raise money for veteran services. Thank you DAV of Kent!
43 BAND 4 – Granite Falls High School Marching Band Please welcome the Granite Falls High School Marching Band. They are under the direction of Skyler Williams and Brooke Rundle, with Drum major Jason Gorbunov and guard captain Mia Boisen. They are excited to return to Auburn for the first time since 2019.
44 Drew James – Veterans of Foreign Wars Up next is Drew James, State Judge Advocate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Washington. The Veterans of Foreign Wars is commonly known as the VFW. Drew served in the United States Army 1st Battalion 87th Infantry 10th Mountain Division from 2000-2004. He is a member of the VFW Post 7511 out of Monroe. Drew is joined by his wife of 16 years, Riannon James.
45 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Washington Put your hands together for the VFW Department of Washington. The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States works hand in hand with the Veterans Administration, the local fraternal organizations and community to aid and assist as needed to help and support all veterans and their families, and schools. One of the major goals for the veterans is to ensure all veterans rights and benefits are provided to them and their families.
46 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1741 Let’s welcome Auburn’s White River Valley VFW Post 1741, one of the oldest veteran organizations in the City of Auburn. The Post was initially founded in the early 1900’s following WW1 and made up of veterans who had served in that conflict. Today, Post 1741 is made up of veterans from WW 2 to Afghanistan who served on foreign soil during an armed conflict. And for the fourth time since 2011, Post 1741 was selected for both All American and All State recognition.
47 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2224 Up next is the Puyallup Valley VFW Post 2224 and their Auxiliary.  Post 2224 is an All-American Post. Great job Veterans and thank you for your service!

49 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3070 Please welcome the VFW from Sumner – Bonney Lake!  Post 3070 has been active in serving veterans and the general community affairs in the Sumner/Bonney Lake communities since 1943.  The post supports the USO, Soldiers Home Orting, the local food bank and organize jointly with JBLM the Memorial Day Service at the Sumner Cemetery.  So nice to hear – keep up the great work, and thank you for your service!
50 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5052 Here comes the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5052 from Maple Valley, representing the Maple Valley/Ravensdale area. Rdiding along today, is 99-year old World War II Veteran, Richard Ludwig. No one does more for Veterans than the VFW!
51 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6785 It’s time to say hello to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kent-Meridian Post 6785. This post formed in 1978. The group supports veterans and active duty military. The Post is especially proud of their Honor Guard, which provides burial services at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Thank you, Veterans!

54 VFW Riders Chapter 1 Here from Oak Harbor Washington is the VFW Post 7392 Chapter One Riders led by President Jerry Busig. Accompanying them today is Department Chairman Dean McKinney. The VFW Riders motto is “To Honor The Dead By Helping The Living”.
55 John ‘Moose’ Moysiuk – Marine Corps League Approaching us now is the Commandant of the Department of Washington Marine Corps League, John “Moose” Moysiuk. John is also the National Vice Commandant, Northwest Division. John is a retired Marine with 21 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. He joined the Olympia Detachment #482 in April of 2003 and became a life member in October of 2010. John is currently employed by the State of Washington, Employment Security Department.  He’s also the Local Coordinating Officer for the Toys for Tots Foundation in his comminity. Well done! 57 Danelle Wyatt – AMVETS Representing the American Veterans, or AMVETS is the Department Commander, Danelle Wyatt. She works closely with the Ladies Auxiliary, the Sons of the AMVETS and the AMVETS Riders. The AMVETS Department of Washington has over 3,200 members statewide. Membership is open to anyone who honorably served or is currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves. The American G I Forum is the only congressionally chartered Hispanic veterans organization with over 40 chapters nationwide. 60 Jennifer Horn – Military Order of the Purple Heart It’s time to say hello to Jennifer Horn, the Washington State Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Jennifer is an Army Veteran, with one tour is Mosul, Iraq in 2005, where she was injured in a mortar attack. The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to members of the armed forces of the United States, who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy. Thank you Jennifer, for your service and your continued service to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
61 Military Order of the Purple Heart Department of Washington Here comes the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Department of Washington!  The organization was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration of Purple Heart. 62 Rev. Robert L. Watson, Jr. – National Association for Black Veterans, Inc. Up next and representing the National Association for Black Veterans, Inc. is the State Commander Reverend Robert L. Watson, Junior. Rev. Watson was in the United States Army for 21 years and retired with an honorable discharge in 2004. After retirement, he began the next call on his life, serving the Lord. 63 Northwest Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America It’s time to say hello to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered Veterans Service Organization founded in 1946. These are Veterans of the United States armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injuries, ALS and MS. This organization has developed expertise on a wide variety of issues involving the special needs of their members. They are aggressive advocates for an accessible America. 64 Auburn Scout Troop 401 Please welcome Scout Troop 401 of Auburn, one of the oldest troops in Washington State, who has provided a scouting program and has served Auburn since 1923!!  Troop 401 cleans soldiers’ graves and posts flags for the Memorial Day Ceremony, among other community contributions. Today, they provided assistance to the Northwest Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America in this parade and assisted with Dignitary vehicles.  Troop 401 would like to say thank you to our veterans!
65 BAND 6 – Tahoma High School Parade Band It’s now time to say hello to the Tahoma High School’s very first Fall Parade Band. Joining us from just up Highway 18, from Maple Valley. 66 Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. Next up, representing the Gold Star Wives of America is Marissa Aiegeria, Treasurer of the Tahoma Chapter and Emily LeanGuerrew, Secretary of the Tahoma Chapter. The Gold Star Wives of America was first organized in 1943 and became a congressionally recognized Veteran Service Organization on December 4, 1980.  The Gold Star Wives is a Veteran Service Organization that provides assistance and friendship to those who have lost their spouse to a military related cause of death.
67 Jim DeMott – U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. Here comes Jim DeMott, District Commander of the United States Submarine Veterans Incorporated. The purpse of the organization is to perpetuate the memory of their shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. In the Pacific Northwest, there are over 650 men and women who are members of the Submarine Veterans Incorporated. The membership ranges between World War Two veterans to active duty sailors, with six Bases or Chapters in Washington and Oregon. They provide way for all Submariners to gather for the mutual benefit and enjoyment, and engage is various projects and deeds that bring about remembrance of those shipmates who have given the ultimate sacrifice. 68 United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. Up next is the United States Submarine Veterans, Incorporated. They are a national Veterans Organization with 169 bases nationwide. Bremeton Base leads off with the newly rebuilt SubVet of WW II Float that represents a WW II Fleet Submarine. Followed by the Seattle Base Float that represents a modern Atomic powered Fast Attack Submarine. The motorcycles are part of the National Submarine Veterans Motorcycle Club that has over 500 members across the US. As always…outstanding display! 70 Joel Ware – Vietnam Veterans of America Representing the Vietnam Veterans of America is Joel Ware, Chapter 102 President. Joel flew in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand in the United States Air Force as Combat Aircrew with Classified duties. He returned to civilian life in October 1972, just over 50 years ago and is grateful for each day. Joel is accompanied today by Clark Silliman, the Vice-President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 102. Thank you both for your service!

72 Rex Faubion – Fleet Reserve Association Here comes Rex Faubion, the Northwest Region President of the Fleet Reserve Association. Rex retired from the United States Navy as a Senior Chief Cryptologic Technician. The Fleet Reserve Association is a congressionaly recognized Veteran Service organization serving the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. The Northwest Region covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Phillipines, Guam and Japan. Locally, there are branches in Puyallup, Bremerton, Silverdale, Seattle, Everett and Whidbey Island. Rex is accompanied by his wife, Judy. 75 Heinz Haskins – Military Officers Association of America In front of us now is Mr. Heinz Haskins of the Military Officers Association of America. The Vice President on Legislation of MOAA. There are10 chapters within the state of Washington with almost 11,000 members state-wide advocating for veterans.  Heinz retired in 1996 at Ft. 76 Combat Infantrymen’s Association Here are the men of the Combat Infantrymen’s Association, led by Commander James Legendry. To earn the honor of wearing the Combat Intantrymen’s Badge, a soldier must be a military trained infantryman by trade plus he must have served as an infantryman in combat. 77 Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association We are SO pleased with the return of this next entry…..help me welcome the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. This group includes military pilots who flew combat missions in Vietnam between 1961 and 1975. Aboard the flatbed trailer is a UH-1H Huey helicopter fuselage, owned by the Olympia Flight Museum. The UH-1 Huey was the icon for Americans in Vietnam and carried most U.S. Ground Troops. Missions included troop lift, medevac, re-supply, gunship combat support, search and rescue, and recon. Over 9,000 aircrew were lost in Vietnam combat. Fabulous display; thank you!

The First Cavalry Division is one of the most decorated combat divisions of the United States Army, having served in every conflict since World War II. 83 Women’s Army Corps Association Chapter 63 In front of us now is the Women’s Army Corps; the women’s branch of the United States Army. It was created as an auxiliary unit, the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps on May 15, 1942 and converted to an active duty status in the Army of the United States as the Women’s Army Corps on July 1, 1943. The Women’s Army Corps was disbanded in 1978, and all units were integrated with male units.
84 United States Army Warrant Officer Association, Northwest Chapter Representing the Northwest Chapter of the United States Army’s Warrant Officers Association is Chief Warrant Officer (Retired), Stan Pauley.  Stan is a combat veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm. Warrant officers are highly specialized technical experts and single-track specialty officers who receive their authority from the Secretary of the Army upon their initial appointment. Upon promotion to chief warrant officer these Warrants are commissioned and are direct representatives of the President of the United States.

The United Service Organization, or USO, was originally formed in 1941 at the beginning of World War II with the purpose of supporting American’s military. 108 BAND 10 – Sumner High School Spartan Marching Band The Sumner High School Spartan Marching Band is again proud to represent Sumner High School, the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, and the City of Sumner in the 2022 Auburn Veterans Parade. These students have participated in a variety of events over the last few months, from the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee to the Seafair Torchlight Parade to the Washington State Fair Rodeo Parade. We hope you enjoy our performance today.
109 Puget Sound Honor Flight Here comes the Puget Sound Honor Flight.  Do you know what this amazing organization does?  They take World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans on a trip to Washington, DC, taking them to the memorials that were built in their honor. What a great organization! Veterans…if this is something that sounds interesting to you, we encourage you to contact the Puget Sound Honor Flight, for more details. Three Veterans ride in their vehicle today, that all experienced “one more mission” honor flight last spring. In the front seat is Korean War veteran Joe Dubacher, who shipped out to Korea in 1951 with 8,000 marines and soldiers. Part of the HV Mortar Company in the 40th Infantry Division, he found in several battles including Heartbreak Ridge. In the back seat are two Vietnam Chinook pilots, CW04 Fred Loehmer and CW04 Vince Foulks, Both Veterans flew their first combat mission together in 1966 and both are recipients of the Distinguished Flying Cross. A big thanks to the Puget Sound Honor Flight for all the great work they do!
110 Puyallup Tribal Veterans The Puyallup Tribal Veterans proudly march in honor of all Veterans, especially those of the Puyalup Tribe. They have served in all the major wars, as well as, conflicts and police actions. They attend Powwows and present colors at various events. 115 Todd Beamer High School Air Force Junior ROTC Up next is the Todd Beamer High School Air Force Junior ROTC 51st Titan Squadron, commanded by Cadet Leuitenant Colonel Isabela Esquivel-Partida. The squadron is one of the top units in the nation. Its awards include 12 Distinguished unit awards, two with merit, and the Outstanding Organization award. Well done cadets!
116 Federal Way High School Air Force JROTC Following closely on their heals is the Federal Way High School Air Force Junior ROTC Unit. This is a distinguished unit, having passed it’s Air Force inspection with an Outstanding Unit with distinction rating for 2022. A couple added notes about this unit: one graduated cadet enlisted in the United States Army. Another graduated cadet was selected to attend the flight academy at no cost. Two cadets graduated, with honors. Outstanding job Cadets!
117 BAND 11 – North Creek High School Marching Band Here comes first time parade participants, North Creek High School Marching Band, coming to us from Bothell. 118 Puget Sound Military Vehicle Collectors Club Always a fan favorite, the Puget Sound Military Vehicle Collector’s Club, founded in 1973 is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, history, public education and display of military vehicles and related equipment in honor of past, present and future veterans of the United States of America.  These vehicles are privately owned and maintained and their members are proud to be honoring those that have served.  Thank you to the members of this organization for sharing their vehicles with us today!  Ladies and gentlemen – the Puget Sounds Military Vehicle Collector’s Club!!
119 Bethel High School Air Force JROTC Here comes Bethel High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Corps, a 130 member strong unit from Spanaway, Washington with a mission to Develop Citizens of Character. Winners of the “Outstanding Unit Award in 2021,” Bethel cadets have accumulated over 1200 community service hours so far this year and 2,200 previously. Marching today are members of their Armed, Unarmed and Color Guard teams. Ladies and gentlemen, Bethel High School’s 62nd Bison Squadron.
120 BAND 12 – Kennedy Catholic High School Lancer Marching Band Here comes the Kennedy Catholic High School Lancer Marching Band, from Burien. For over 50 years, the award-winning Kennedy Catholic High School “Lancer” Band has been entertaining audiences through-out the PNW region. The 2022-23 Lancer Band Drum Majors are Abby Fox and Fernando Recinos. The Color Guard is directed by Ms. Andrea Filer and Ms. Shawna Azawres. The Lancer Band is directed by Mr. Daniel Ruiter. Great job Kennedy Catholic!
121 National Alliance to End Veteran Suicide We are now looking at the National Alliance To End Veteran Suicide. Their focus areas are Education, Resources, Research and Community. You need not be a Veteran to make a difference! Learn more and become a Volunteer Champion at www.NA2EVS.org. Volunteers are carrying a 20 foot by 30 foot US flag in a memorial position to create the awareness of the 20 Veterans per day that take their own lives. Let’sjoin together to save Veteran Lives.

123 Friends of Willie & Joe You are looking at Friends of Willie and Joe, an award winning and well known historical and educational living history founded in 1994. The group is dedicated to preserving the memory of the male and female military personnel who served in World War II.  Friends of Willie and Joe is a group of collectors and amateur historians who attend parades, airshows and veterans events to educate the public about the uniforms, arms, equipment and vehicles used in World War II.
124 Friends of Kilroy Friends of Kilroy is a Living Military History group dedicated to preserving the vehicles, equipment, and stories of those that served in the Armed Forces of the United States in the Various Wars and conflicts from WW1 to Present Day. – WE REMEMBER. What a great display – thank you Friends of Kilroy!
125 Gamewardens Association, Northwest Chapter Here comes the Gamewardens Association, Northwest Chapter, with membership comprised mostly of local Vietnam Combat Veterans who served in the Brown Water Navy Task Force of 116. This Navy Unit was originally developed during and for the Vietnam War. These sailors were the most highly decorated of all Naval Units of the Vietnam War. The ‘active duty’ sailors from Bangor, Washington are manning the guns today. This operational 32 foot Mark Two PBR – Patrol Boat River – was manufactured in Bellingham, Washington…the same boat many of these men served on in the Vietnam War. Outstanding display! 126 Washington Civil War Association Here come the men and women of the Washington Civil War Association, a non-profit organization who make history come alive by putting on battle reenactments and living history presentations all over our state. Their mission is to make Civil War history come alive to the public in a hands-on way that will increase understanding and awareness of this time period. For more information, visit www.wcwa.net
127 4th US Infantry Regiment Here come some historical reenactors…. soldiers and civilians of Company C, Fourth Infantry Regiment who garrisoned old Fort Steilacoom, Washington Territory from 1853 to the start of the Civil War in 1861. These members come from all over the Pacific Northwest to put on living history demonstrations and Civil War battle reenactments. Well done – thank you!
128 Redefining You Foundation Next up is the Redefining You Foundation, a Veteran and woman-owned non-profit established in 2016. The group is led by Shellie Willis, Renowned America’s Select Veteran Queen 2022/23. Redefining You serves servicewomen, women veterans, and military spouses, by taking them on a journey through professional and personal development training programs. These are programs we have created specifically for them so they can transition seamlessly beyond the uniform and beyond the boots. This is about breaking down and building you up. 130 American-Vietnamese War Memorial Alliance The American-Vietnamese War Memorial Alliance built and maintains the Vietnam War Memorial in Auburn’s LESS GOVE Park. The memorial honors American, Republic of Vietnam, and Allied veterans of the Vietnam War. The second vehicle within this entry represents the South Vietnamese Air Force Association of Washington. 131 Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle Up next are the The Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle, a nonprofit outreach organization devoted to making a difference in the community. The Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle are dedicated to giving the community a chance to learn influential American history. They educate by hosting camps, bi weekly educational forums, equine therapy and making appearances at schools, museums, parades, and festivals all around the nation. 134 Sons of the American Revolution Marching here today are the “Sons of the American Revolution”. The “Sons of the American Revolution” is a historical, education, patriotic and service organization. They are the largest all-male lineage society, whose members have traced their Ancestry back to the American Revolution. Their families either fought for or supported the war effort. Many of the members of the marching unit are Veterans themselves. Their uniforms represent actual replicas of what was worn in the 18th century.
135 Daughters of the American Revolution – Lakota Chapter Up next is the Daughters of the American Revolution – Lakota Chapter that was organized in Auburn, Washington in 1981. This is a women’s service organization founded in 1891. Members have proven lineal descent from a person who served in the American Revolution or provided aid to the colonies during the American Revolution. Thank you, ladies!”
136 Daughters of the American Revolution – Rainier Chapter And here is the Rainier Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. This is a volunteer, service organization, whose members are able to trace their lineage to the Revolutionary War! Rainier Chapter supports our active service members and veterans, presents ROTC and Sea Cadet medals, and grants several scholarships each year. Their historic Chapter House, located on Capitol Hill, is used for chapter meetings, rental venue, and charitable events, including school field trips. Well done!
137 Daughters of the American Revolution – Mary Ball Chapter You are now looking at the Mary Ball Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. This chapter was the first DAR chapter in Washington; founded in 1894. This chapter has numerous veterans amoung them. Thank you ladies, for your service!
138 BAND 13 – Chimacum High School Here comes the Chimacum High School Marching Band, the Pride of the Chimacum Valley, located on Washington’s beautiful Olympic Peninsula. The band has performed in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade in Pearl Harbor and the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. among other prestigious parades. 139 JBLM Chapter of Military Jeepers JBLM Military Jeepers is a chapter of the Nationally recognized Military Jeepers for Active and Retired Veterans of the Armed Forces. The club is comprised of Veterans and active military service men and women. Thank you for your service!

143 Minions of Chaos Here comes the Minions of Chaos. The club was started from a military safety course on JBLM and was established in March 2011. The club is considered a DOD motorcycle club and is one of the few clubs that is allowed to wear their vest at military installations. 144 Brothers In Arms Motorcycle Club The Brothers-In-Arms Motorcycle Club is a non-profit organization, established in 2002, comprised of active duty, retired and honorably discharged veterans from all 5 branches of the military. 145 Valley Cities Vet Team / Cohen Veterans Network Here comes the combined team consisting of Valley Cities Veteran Team and the Cohen Veterans Network in Lakewood, who both provide a variety of services for local veterans. The Valley Cities Veteran Team provides behavioral health services to Veterans and their family members in Auburn and throughout King County under the voter approved Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy. 148 Auburn Sons of Italy Lodge #1955 The Auburn Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge #1955 was founded in 1947. The Auburn lodge now has over 215 members. Among our members are active duty military and veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm and other conflicts. 149 King Solomon Lodge #60 – Free and Accepted Masons of Auburn Let’s say hello to Auburn’s King Solomon Masonic Family.  Freemasons are the oldest fraternity in the world, and Auburn’s King Solomon Lodge has been in Auburn since 1890. Their building, situated on the corner of Main and Auburn Way, has been there since 1924 and they have been supporting Auburn for the last 125 years!  They are accompanied by their youth organizations and their associated bodies. 152 Aerospace Machinists District 751 Veterans Committee You are now looking at the Aerospace Machinists District 751 Veterans Committee, who are proud to be a part of this parade. These veterans, who now build and fabricate Boeing airplanes, helped build some of the military hardware that they once operated while serving the United States military in their particular branch. Our members are proud to have served their country and today proud to build our community and walk in the Auburn Veteran’s Parade. Well done Veterans – and thank you for your service!
153 Ballard High School Marching Band I can here them coming…..award winning Ballard High School Marching Band from Seattle Washington. Ballard High School was the winner of best musical/drill entry last year in the Auburn Veterans Day parade and is very happy to return to celebrate our veterans. The band is directed by 9 year Navy Veteran Jay Gillespie and led by drum majors Simon Skonieczny, Etienne Redpath, and head drum major Luca Rios.
154 MacGregor’s Own Scots Guard Coming up next is MacGregor’s Own Scots Guard, which was formed in 1996. The honor guard is led by Ken Nadeau. The branches of the service represented are the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy. The honor guard actively participates in posting the colors at various Scottish games and events.
155 Auburn School District Transportation Up next is the Auburn School District Transportation Division. You’re looking at one of their school buses, with a bus full of their bus drivers who are Veterans of the United States armed forces. Thank you for your service and thank you for getting Auburn’s littlelist citizens to and from school safely each school day!

159 The Marines Motorcycle Club, Seattle Chapter The Marines motorcycle club consists of former and active duty Uinited States Marines who proudly ride together for the purposes of mutual support, comradery and adventure. 162 Tacoma Corvette Club In front of us now is the Tacoma Corvette Club.  Those are some nice looking vehicles! All eight generations of the Corvette are represented by its members. The club also has numerous veterans within our ranks, who look forward to this important event each year.  The 120 member-strong Tacoma Corvette Club is proud to present these very special cars in public in honor of our nation’s veterans.
163 Cub Scout Pack 331 Here comes Auburn Cub Scout Pack 331. These kids attend elementary school, Kindergarden thru 5th grade throughout the Auburn School District. This is a family oriented and fun fueled scout pack. Excellent job, kids!

165 Auburn Girl Scout Service Unit Here comes the Auburn Girl Scouts! The Auburn Girl Scout Service Unit is comprised of 17 troops and numerous independently registered members within Auburn City limits. During this year’s cookie season the Auburn community donated 2,034 boxes to the Operation Cookie drop. Outstanding job to our local girl scouts and to our community. Well done!!

All of our cars are American made and were designed by Henry and Edsel Ford themselves. We have many veterans in our club and salute and thank our Veterans for their service. 170 ABATE of Washington – South King County Chapter ABATE is a non-profit organization of men and women, both Veterans and civilians, who come together to promote motorcycle safety, education and public awareness. The group is proud to pay tribute to our nation’s veterans today.
171 Old Coots on Scoots Chapter 50 In front of you now is The Old Coots on Scoots Chapter 50 of Edgewood. This is a non-profit group of motorcycle enthusiasts who love to give back to their surrounding community by volunteer work or charitable donations.
172 Gallopin’ Gertie Model “A” Club Here comes the Gallopin Gertie Model “A” Club.  Model A’s were produced by Ford between 1928 through the end of 1931.  They were inexpensive and popular.  Many are restored and driving today.  These cars have only three gears and drivers have to double clutch to down shift.  Model A’s have mechanical brakes and a 40 horsepower engine.  There are numerous body styles and colors but the fenders were always black.  This group loves showing their cars and they are honored to support our Veterans today in this parade!
173 Thomas Jefferson High School Raider Marching Band From just over the hill, it’s the Thomas Jefferson High School Marching Raider Band! Under the direction of Aaron Weed and Drum Majors Katrina Bustillos and Kaela Engelshen, the Raider Band supports their community with performances at various athletic and social events throughout the region and beyond. This year they are debuting new uniforms designed back in early 2020 and purchased through community fundraising. Go Raiders! Thank you Veterans from from Thomas Jefferson High School Raider Band!
174 Valley Regional Fire Authority Last, but definitely not least….please welcome the Valley Regional Fire Authority – YOUR local fire department; providing fire, emergency medical and rescue services to the communities of Algona, Auburn and Pacific. Leading the way is their Fire Chief, Brad Thompson. He is accompanied by VRFA Battalion Chief Gary Barker who served in the US Navy. Gary was a 2nd Class Petty Officer, stationed on the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier in San Diego. Thank you Gary and Veterans of the VRFA! You are now looking at the VRFA’s new Tractor Drawn Aerial or TDA. This is an Ascendent 107 foot Heavy-Duty Tiller Aerial Ladder made by Pierce Manufacturing. The TDA is just over 60 feet in length and requires a second driver who steers the rear wheels from the back of the vehicle. The TDA is the most maneuverable aerial apparatus in the fire service. It allows firefighters to navigate tighter roads and deploy aerial equipment more quickly. The Valley Regional Fire Authority would like to thank our veterans and our active military personnel for their commitment to our country.
