This fall school will look a lot different. Students will be logging in to class instead of sitting at familiar desks. But one thing will remain the same; the need for school supplies.  Wanting to ensure every student has the tools for success, the Auburn Public School Foundation is hosting its annual school supply drive.

Current items requested include:

  • Personal/small dry erase whiteboards and erasers
  • Dry erase markers (fine and regular)
  • Pens, pencils, and highlighters
  • Papers (lined and graph)
  • Notebooks and composition books
  • Rulers, protractors, and calculators
  • Headphones/earbuds

The APSF has worked with several local businesses and organizations to arrange drop off locations throughout the community.  Drop off your school supplies at any of the following locations:

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation has provided support to students and district families with grocery gift cards and diaper drive. “The APSF [has] been incredibly lucky in receiving a few grants to support our COVID relief efforts,” shared Auburn Public Schools Foundation Executive Director Natasha Daily.

The recent ‘Step Up For Auburn’ campaign raised $13,000 for APSF to support Auburn School District students and families. APSF has also just been awarded $20,000 from Safeway for the Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief program. The foundation will use this award to provide nutritional support to students, helping to eliminate an additional barrier while learning from home.

Despite these recent funding awards, Daily anticipates the foundation will see a funding shortage this year. “We are having to cancel events that bring in the majority of our income. We have already had to cancel our fundraising breakfast in September and will be hosting our Turkey Trot virtually, which will likely lose participants.”

Many of Auburn School District’s teachers and staff give a portion of their paycheck to APSF. Given the challenges district staff and families are already seeing, Daily shared there will not be a big push from the foundation for these contributions.

“Support, both financially and by donating school supplies, is incredibly helpful to us,” said Daily. “[It allows] us to provide more funding for our staff, students, and their families!”
