The Auburn Police Department has extended the application deadline for the Auburn Police Advisory Committee to this coming ~~Sunday~~, Monday, October 5 at 12:00 pm. After receiving feedback from the community, the department has adjusted the application process to be more inclusive.

The Auburn Police Advisory Committee (APAC) is described as “an opportunity [for the community] to act in an advisory role in order to provide recommendations to the Auburn Police Department concerning community policing issues. This group will represent the people of Auburn and will be an active partner with the Auburn Police Department in the development of policies and strategies for the implementation of stronger, effective, and equitable community policing.”

Applications will no longer be disqualified if they do no complete every section of the application. While a background check will still be completed, a social security number is also no longer required. The application additionally states ” having a criminal record will not be an automatic disqualifier. Offenses that may disqualify an applicant could be, but are not limited to, a violent offense, sex offense, or related to a charge or conviction for domestic violence.”

Applicants who have already submitted their application do not need to resubmit or adjust their application.

We have heard your concerns regarding the application process for the APAC and we have taken steps to ensure the process is inclusive and accessible for all of our residents in Auburn. While we have a limited number of slots available, we want to allow for a diversity of applicants for consideration. In doing so we have made some changes to our online application and have extended the deadline to Sunday, October 5 at 12 p.m. If you have previously applied, there is no need to reapply.

To make the application more inclusive, we have added a language translation feature, removed the requirement for a social security number and clarified that opting-out of certain questions will not disqualify an applicant from consideration. Committee selections will be made on Tuesday, October 6, by Committee Chairperson Chief Dan O’Neil, and co-chairs Commander Cristian Adams and Pastor LaShund Lambert of Resurrection Church of Auburn. Commander Adams and Pastor Lambert have been at the forefront on the creation of the citizen advisory effort and strengthening community connections between law enforcement and the Auburn Community.
