Auburn City Council Meeting Recap: May 6, 2019

I. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to Order at 7:01pm.  This meeting was a little different because Mayor Backus was not present.  In her absence, Deputy Mayor Peloza chaired the meeting.
Councilmember Trout-Manuel and Mayor Backus were excused from the meeting. Councilmember Holman was late but excused.

II. ANNOUNCEMENTS, PROCLAMATIONS, AND PRESENTATIONS

Deputy Mayor Peloza declared May 19-25 public works week in the City of Auburn.

III. APPOINTMENTS

Next Council voted to appoint Kristin Small  to the Salary Commission for a four-year term to expire on December 31st, 2022.

IV. AGENDA MODIFICATIONS

The Affordable Housing Week proclamation was removed from the agenda.  No reason was provided.

V. CITIZEN INPUT, PUBLIC HEARINGS AND CORRESPONDENCE

A. Public Hearings – No public hearing held.

B. Audience Participation This is the place on the agenda where the public is invited to speak to the City Council on any issue. Those wishing to speak are reminded to sign in on the form provided.

Three citizens came up and spoke to the council on issues related to crime prevention, alleged negligent building code issues, and our supposed “budget crisis”

C. Correspondence – No correspondence was presented for Council review.

VI. COUNCIL AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS

Council Ad Hoc Committee Chairs may report on the status of their ad hoc Council Committees’ progress on assigned tasks and may give their recommendation to the City Council, if any.

After audience participation, the finance committee gave their report which detailed claims vouchers totaling $2,261,059.20 payroll vouchers totaling $2,731,649.26.

VII. CONSENT AGENDA

All matters listed on the Consent Agenda are considered by the City Council to be routine and will be enacted by one motion in the form listed.

The Council then passed the consent agenda which included the minutes of the March 25th, April 8th, and April 22nd Council Study Sessions, the minutes of the August 16th, 2016 and April 15th, 2019 Special City Council Meetings, the minutes of the April 15th, 2019 Regular City Council Meeting, the claims and payroll vouchers, Public Works project CP 1719 and 1829. also, set a Public Hearing date for Franchise Agreement #19-09

IX. NEW BUSINESS

None

X. RESOLUTIONS

The council talked about and passed three resolutions during this meeting. The first of the three was Resolution 5418, allowing the mayor to accept and spend Federal Grant Funds on the Auburn Way South, Poplar Street Curve.

The second wasResolution 5423 which approves the disbursement of Lodging Tax Grants as recommended by the Auburn Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The third wasResolution 5421 which sets a public hearing for the consideration of the vacation of right-of-way on B Street Southeast.

XI. MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBER REPORTS

At this time the Mayor and City Council may report on significant items associated with their appointed positions on federal, state, regional and local organizations.

Lastly, the Council and the Deputy Mayor gave their reports. First Councilmember DaCorsi talked about an all-electric fleet of transit buses.  He stated this will help our infrastructure. Next Councilmember Brown thanked Public Works for all they do. Thirdly, Councilmember Holman apologized for being late and he condoled the death of a historical member of our community.  Deputy Mayor Peloza finished reports speaking about Crow With Fries, a new art structure in Les Gove Park and the celebration for it that will happen on May 31st.
