Auburn City Council Meeting Re-Cap: April 15, 2019

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Deputy Mayor Peloza, Councilmembers John Holman, Larry Brown, Claude DaCorsi, and Bob Baggett were present. Mayor Backus was also present. CITIZEN INPUT, PUBLIC HEARINGS AND CORRESPONDENCE

A. Public Hearings – No public hearing was scheduled for this meeting.
B. Audience Participation
This is the place on the agenda where the public is invited to speak to the City Council on any issue. Those wishing to speak are reminded to sign in on the form provided.

One citizen came up and talked about how the city needs to focus on emergency preparedness for wildfires in Auburn. (Video)

C. Correspondence – There was no correspondence for Council review this meeting.

COUNCIL AND HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS

The finance committee gave its ad hoc report. This included claims vouchers totaling $6,335,917.85 and payroll vouchers totaling $2,231,237.88. (Video)

CONSENT AGENDA

All matters listed on the Consent Agenda are considered by the City Council to be routine and will be enacted by one motion in the form listed
The consent agenda was passed 5-0 and it included the minutes of the April 1st, 2019 regular and special city council meeting, the claims and payroll vouchers, and capital projects 1725 and 1802. (Video)

The city council passed Resolution No. 5414, which details a transfer of land between Auburn and King County. (Video)

After that council passed Resolution No. 5420. This lets the council apply and accept grant funds up to $150,000 if awarded from the Washington DOT for the Auburn Municipal Airport. (Video)

MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBER REPORTS

At this time the Mayor and City Council may report on significant items associated with their appointed positions on federal, state, regional and local organizations.

The last thing item on the agenda before adjournment was Mayor and Councilmember reports.

Deputy Mayor Peloza talked about how the Port of Seattle needs to finish the fish stream at the Howard Hansen Dam to replenish the chinook salmon population.

Councilmember Baggett had no report.

Councilmember Brown had no report.

Councilmember Holman reported on attending the Puget Sound Regional Council’s latest meeting.  He spoke to the task before the Council this year is to update Vision 2040 into Vision 2050.  This update will assist when the participating counties compete for federal dollars.

Lastly, Mayor Backus gave her report which detailed a meeting with Microsoft. The meeting was about their large donation to help homelessness in the Seattle area. She talked about her attendance at two coffee hours at Meryl Gardens and Wesley Homes retirement facilities. Mayor Backus also shared about a meeting she had at City Hall discussing creating and maintaining family wage jobs. Then the mayor talked about her opening Auburn Little League for their season.
