For the past nine years, Athens Pizza and Pasta has hosted a free Thanksgiving Meal. The community meal is open to anyone. Each year the number of guests served gets larger and the owners – the Contoravdis family, couldn’t be happier for it. The event announcement states that “with the help of monetary donations from our community, customers, local businesses, and friends, we are able to offer a free meal for whoever would like to come to Athens Pizza on Thanksgiving day.”

The annual feast was planned as a to-go event given the number of guests served each year. The Contoravdises aren’t letting current restrictions stop them from serving their community. Zola’s Cafe has joined the event this year, adding a pastry to each prepackaged meal.

Nina Contoravdis previously told the Auburn Examiner that Athens Pizza welcomes “everyone for the meal, but we have noticed over the years that the homeless community has significantly grown in Auburn. We want them all to know they can come in and enjoy a warm meal on Thanksgiving day.”

This year a community Thanksgiving meal is even more important. “We understand these are difficult times for so many, we urge you to please stop by and pick up a meal for you & your family to enjoy,”reads the event announcement.

Athens will re-donate any monetary donations that remain after the dinner. The event announcement states the organizations to receive the remaining funds will be “the Auburn Food Bank, Auburn Police Department for Shop with a Cop and Auburn Valley Fire Department for their Toys For [Kids] drive.”

If you would like to support this annual community event, contributions can be made in person at Athens Pizza & Pasta (959 E Main St, Auburn) or online through the dinner’s Facebook event.
