Officer Involved Shooting 05/31/19
Friday, May 31st at 5:52 PM Auburn officers were dispatched to a disorderly subject at the 1400 block of Auburn Way North. The caller reported the subject was outside throwing items at vehicles and hitting and kicking walls. An officer arrived at 5:58 PM and made contact with the male subject in front of the Sunshine Grocery located at 1402 Auburn Way North. Shortly after arriving, the officer attempted to arrest the subject for a crime and the subject resisted arrest. A physical altercation ensued between the officer and the subject. During the altercation, the officer drew his gun and shot the subject. The subject was in critical condition and was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The officer also sustained injuries and was sent to Auburn MultiCare Hospital and where he was treated for his injuries.
The Valley Investigation Team was called to the scene and will take over the investigation. The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure in cases like this.
