APD in stand off with barricaded suspect believed to be armed with handgun

The Auburn Police Department has released that at approximately 12:40 pm today, Auburn officers responded to the area of the 500 block of 37th SE for a possible felony crime. Officers were able to locate a victim who reported a felony occurred at 537 37th St SE. While on the scene, officers observed an adult male subject in the apartment.  This individual who would not respond to their commands to exit.  It is believed that the male subject is armed with a handgun.  Negotiators made repeated attempts to have the subject exit the apartment, but he refused.

Police have confirmed that no shots have been fired at this time.  Area residents may be hearing sounds associated with flash bangs, which may be mistaken for gunshots.

Valley SWAT has been dispatched to the scene. East and Westbound lanes of 37th SE in the area are closed at this time.  This remains an active scene.

Both Mt. Baker Middle School and Gildo Rey Elementary have been put on lockdown as a precaution.  Parents and guardians will receive notice regarding transportation from the Auburn School District.

This is a developing situation, we will update when further information becomes available.
