Memorial Day is commonly observed with parades, military presentations, barbecues, and other community events.  But it is important to remember the meaning behind the very somber holiday; to honor the women and men who died in military service to the nation. Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed the last Monday in May and is observed on May 30 this year.

All U.S. flags are to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until noon in observance of Memorial Day.
