Vancouver Police Dept. Officer Donald Sahota

According to Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP), Sahota “was inadvertently shot and killed by a Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy while attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect who was attempting to break into his home.”

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, third-degree assault, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officer Sahota served both the Vancouver Police Department (7 years), the Gresham Police Department, and the Port of Portland Police Department in Oregon. He is survived by his wife and two children.

As a reminder, when the U.S. flag is flown at half-staff or half-mast, it should first be raised to the top for an instant, then immediately lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. Prior to lowering the flag, it should be raised once more to the peak, then lowered.
