Sergeant Brown, 46, died in the line of duty on Friday, July 23, 2021.

A public memorial service will be held tomorrow, August 3, at the Ilani Casino Resort in Ridgefield. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with additional details for a pre-ceremony law enforcement vehicle procession to be released by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP), Brown “was shot and killed while conducting surveillance at an apartment complex…in Vancouver.”

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with Brown’s murder. “The subject who shot Sergeant Brown was arrested by members of the United States Marshals Service on July 25th, 2021, and charged with first-degree aggravated murder,” the ODMP states.

Brown’s ODMP profile shares that he “had served with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years and was assigned to the Clark-Vancouver Drug Task Force. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had previously served with the Washington State Department of Corrections and the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office in Montana.”

Brown was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Inslee encourages other government entities, citizens, and businesses to join in the recognition of lowering their flags. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

As a reminder, when the U.S. flag is flown at half-staff or half-mast, it should first be raised to the top for an instant, then immediately lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. Prior to lowering the flag, it should be raised once more to the peak, then lowered.

Another drug-fueled cop killing. A real tragedy for sure. My condolences go out to the family.
