A Night at the Movies: Greenland

Greenland is a new film released to streaming December 18.  The movie features Gerard Butler (London has Fallen) in the leading role.  This film could be considered Sci-fi, action, and thriller all in one.

In the midst of a troubled marriage, John Garrity (Butler) is faced with the sudden impact of a life-threatening global event.  As Garrity is trying to save his marriage to his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin, Deadpool), the earth itself is suddenly in the crosshairs of extinction due to a massive comet on a collision course with the planet.

The embattled couple springs into action to save themselves and their diabetic son.  With chaos and panic surrounding them, the family goes through a myriad of bad circumstances and events in their quest to reach safety.  A journey to Greenland is the only hope of survival from the planet-killing comet.  If they can reach the bunkers there, they have a chance to be part of the rebuilding of Earth itself.

From kidnapping, murder, explosions, and tension beyond belief, this movie is intense.  The vast amount of pandemonium amongst all humans alike is disheartening and scary.  Greenland exposes human nature and its fight for survival no matter the cost.

In light of the current global pandemic, Greenland sheds some light on the frailty that catastrophic events can lead people into.  Fictional or not, the fight for a family to survive is a relation that the audience is sure to buy into.

Full of special effects and dramatization, this film keeps a tight hold of the viewer throughout.  I found the film to be sufficiently entertaining.  The storyline was enough to keep me invested to the end.

While new movies are hard to come by at this time, Greenland is certainly worth a glance.  My one displeasure with the film is Gerard Butler’s accent coming and going.  As a movie lover, I picked up that he, too, is out of practice during the Covid Pandemic.  Regardless, I enjoyed a strong sense of normalcy while enjoying a new film.

This is certainly a standout amongst other disasters films that I have seen and it merits your time viewing. Actually, before I saw it my assumption was that this will be Geostrom 2 sort of awful catastrophe film however I was exceptionally off-base and this film surpasses my assumption by a ton.
